Hi , is there anyone here that suffers from painful toes and feet , especially at night . It is generally my right foot that tends to play up most , the heat and pain generated in the toes and foot is at the best of times unbearable. Have been to see a chiropodist, but they didn't have any idea of what was happening, they said it could be related to my thyroid but weren't sure , so I got a blood test done through medichecks just to see , but nothing showed there either, well , not that I could see. Would be nice to see any feedback please as I have been left a little bewildered with this . Thank you for taking the time to read this post . Take care and Godbless 😔
Sore toes and feet: Hi , is there anyone here... - Thyroid UK
Sore toes and feet
Yes, sore feet can be linked to thyroid conditions, so it’s important to work on optimising your levels to see if this helps alleviate your adverse symptoms . It may be good to have a GP look at your foot to rule out other conditions (gout for instance can cause heat and pain)
A few days ago you posted:
TSH 4.76mlu/L R= 0.27 - 4.2
Free T3 3.1pmol/L R= 3.1 - 6.8
Free T4 14pmol/L R=12 - 22
It was suggested that you raise Levo by 25mcg as a first step to improve these results, but you mentioned that you had adverse symptoms the last time you increased by this amount. Personally, I increase super slowly due to adverse symptoms (eg 12.5mcg Levo alternate days at first, the. Daily when tolerated). I use a pill cutter for this task. Some of us are more like a tortoise than a hare, so a slow and steady approach might help.
Have you tried a magnesium supplement to aid muscle aches? I find taking it at bedtime helps.
Hi Buddy , thank you for getting back to me, I take magnesium glycinate 250mg at night . But doesn't seem to be helping.
I had a spate of sore feet and saw a podiatrist who made me some insoles for my shoes. My arches had fallen slightly and I was putting more pressure through my toes. This really helped a lot. In addition, the pain in my toe was diagnosed by my physio as a Morton’s Neuroma/ confirmed in x Ray by specialist. My physio managed to treat this with ultrasound/ massage and (in my case) no further treatment was needed. It’s definitely worth seeking further advice if your issue is not resolved.
could you please add your full thyroid results to your post, as I believe the painful feet are connected to thyroid problems. I suffered with this when I was a novice at all things thyroid and mine had been removed because of Graves’ disease. Every evening my feet throbbed and burned. Eventually I discovered the existence of T3, managed to get it on prescription and the throbbing feet stopped within a short time.
Hi Hennerton , thanks for getting back to me, I posted the full list of results 6 days ago on a separate post , if you can't see them I can copy them to you .
found them, thank you. Your T3 is at the bottom of the range, so you definitely need to investigate the possibility of getting T3, either from your GP or by asking your GP to refer you to an endocrinologist and paying for it yourself, which is what I did. In those days it was possible for me to see the endocrinologist, who agreed that I needed T3 and gave me a prescription. The first one I paid for myself but then asked my GP to add it to my prescription. Amazingly, she agreed. It seems to be different in every GP practice but you may be lucky. It is worth a try.
I have Graves’ disease and also suffered with sore burning feet and stiff toes and fingers, last blood test 3 months ago showed a vitamin D deficiency so I have just finished a loading dose of vitamin D and my aches improved dramatically after a few weeks and haven’t returned, fingers crossed. It might be an idea to get tested for vitamin deficiency if you can.
Hi Yoga , thanks for getting back to me,My last vit D reading was 102nmol/L , and the range is 50 - 250nmol/L . I do take vit D daily , but looking at the tracker on previous results Vit D is up and down like a yo-yo. So not sure what should be doing , as have plenty of Vit D intake through daily diet as well .
thank you for this, as I’m having a similar problem and asked to see a dermatologist as my big toe nails have stopped growing and are swollen/tender. I thought it was linked to the thyroid also, but no one can tell me anything. So it’s a lack of T3? Thanks for the clarity
I had foot pain around the time of diagnosis as hypothyroid - but mine was very different to yours.
I found ultrasoft diabetic insoles helped me during the day.
Are you taking any vitamins?
If so, an excess of, for example, B6 can cause all sorts of issues including foot pain.
If not, a deficiency of, for example, B6 can cause all sorts of issues including foot pain.
In other words, it is worth considering whether you could have any issues with any nutrients.
