Following my previous post in which I reported my results from 20/02/24, I did a fasting home test from "monitor my health" on 18/03/24 to try to get a more accurate picture. These are the results:
18/03/24:
TSH: 4.47 (0.27-4.2) (20/02/24: 5.37)
FT4: 15 (12-22) (20/02/24: 13.8)
FT3: 4.1 (3.1-6.8)
TPO: 9 IU/mL (under 35 is normal)
I admit I'm surprised that TSH is lower on the most recent fasting test than the previous afternoon test which followed a breakfast with B-vits and a couple of coffees. I though that fasting would give a higher number, i.e., more under-active. FT4 and FT3 are too low in the scale. I think I've fallen into the grey area of "sub-clinical hypothyroidism" that's unlikely to be treated by my NHS doctor as I'm apparently "normal", or at least not under-active enough to be prescribed thyroxine.
Any comments from other readers would be most welcome! Thank you.

With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a separate B12 supplement
A week later add a separate vitamin B Complex
Then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), you may be able to reduce then stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.
If Vegetarian or vegan likely to need ongoing separate B12 few times a week
Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule) Thorne can be difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay
IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results
In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12
Post discussing how biotin can affect test results
Many thanks Slowdragon. That’s a huge amount of info to absorb, but I’ll do my best. I’ve already used my 30 minutes of concentration span today, and the iron band around my forehead is tightening its grip. It will be frustratingly slow progress!
