I would like some advice or opinions on the latest possible symptom of the gift that keeps on giving, Hashimoto's hypothyroidism and brain calcification. I have had neurological and visual symptoms for a few months. I have episodes where the pressure in my head feels like it's going to explode, split seconds of dizziness and recently developed tinnitus. Went to the GP who checked my heart, all fine. I was sent for an MRI scan and the result showed a small area of brain calcification. However, she doesn't think this should be causing symptoms. I have looked at some studies that show a connection with Hashimoto's & hypo/hyperparathyroidism which causes brain calcification. I also have a diagnosis of pernicious anaemia which can also cause hypo/hyperparathyroidism. I do not believe a GP would have enough knowledge in this field to know what tests to request. I wondered if anyone has had any similar experience and if so how you approached the GP to refer on to the most appropriate specialist. I have no idea whether this is what is causing this issue for me but don't want to be left with these symptoms and the GP putting it down to something and nothing. As we all know, Gp's generally have no idea of the far-reaching impact this disease has on our health.
Thank you in advance for any advice or opinion.

I’m not familiar with this particular presentation but I would absolutely agree a GP will not have sufficient knowledge to guide on this and often have scant understanding of hypothyroidism. Most of their experience is related to reading off blood test results and reporting a result without truly understanding how to interpret them or what it all means.
Are you being adequately treated for the pernicious anaemia?
Are you taking any supplements?
And the big question what were your last results and even more importantly have you had any other symptoms and do you have any other health issues ?
Sorry it seems all questions but the whole picture is important. 🤗
Hi thanks for your reply. I have b12 injections every 3 months. My GP won't give me them more frequently. I take turmeric, ginger and black pepper tablets to help support my liver function and recently started taking a probiotic. I don't know what my recent thyroid blood results were, only that the TSH was low(it always is when I'm being medicated) so they reduced my levothyroxine by 25mcg every other day. That was recently though and these symptoms started last year. I don't have any other symptoms or health issues. I haven't had a private blood test for a while as my symptoms were pretty well controlled with the T4&T3 combined treatment. I have an appointment tomorrow with the GP and will go armed with the studies showing these links.
