what else can cause this?

Hello i’ve posted on here before with my results (see at the end of this post) and the doctor has said I’ve got hyperthyroidism, referred me to endo (10 weeks waiting list) and tested for graves as my cousin and Nan both have it however I have had the results and they have come back as negative for it which I think is good news but what else could cause hyper, in my head I just assumed I had graves? The reason why I went initially was because I had extremely bad Epigastric pain, diarrhoea, fatigue, anxiety, insomnia so tested me for this. Thank you

Serum TSH level:

0.11 mu/L

Normal range:

0.4 to 4.9

Serum free T3 level:

6.4 pmol/L

Normal range:

2.4 to 6.0

Serum free T4 level:

14.7 pmol/L

Normal range:

9.0 to 19.0

Have you had any antibody tests?

TSH receptor (TRab) and/or Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin (TSI)

Thyroid Peroxidase (TPOab)

Thyroglobulin (TGab)

I had Anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies blood test which came back as Negative I believe that was to test for graves?

TPOab are indicative for Hashimoto's or Ord's but are also commonly raised in Graves - but not always.

TRab and/or TSI are for Graves.

Ahh ok so the one I’ve had a negative on is for those 2 and there’s a separate test for graves? My results were less than 1 and range was 0-6

Negative TPOab doesn't rule anything out. Some people have TGab and Hashimoto's.

you need TSI or Trab antibodies tested for Graves’ disease

Often only ordered by endocrinologist

TPO and TG antibodies tested for Hashimoto’s (can also be raised with Graves’ disease)

Hashimoto’s often starts with transient hyperthyroid results and symptoms before becoming increasingly hypothyroid

NHS won’t test TG antibodies if TPO are negative you would need to test privately

Testing options and includes money off codes for private testing

Medichecks Thyroid plus BOTH TPO and TG antibodies and vitamins

Thank you for this, how come I can’t get TSI or trab privately and only done through endo and what is the difference with those and the private TSH receptor one? Sorry all a bit confusing also I’m a bit frustrated as he suspects I have graves and has referred to it in my referral to the endo but has only tested me for TPOab why is that?

You can test Trab privately via Medichecks

I gave you link above

medichecks.com/products/tsh...

Generally GP can’t test Trab or TSI ….usually done via endocrinologist

NHS only tests TG antibodies if TPO antibodies are high

Significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients only have high TG antibodies

Your T3 is over range. Your TSH is quite low but not suppressed. Your T4 is ok.

Maybe you’re heading towards graves.

I’m unsure why you’re T3 is over range but it could be causing your symptoms. I’d get back to the Endo if you’ve seen him already and request further investigation into your high T3.

yes unfortunately 5 weeks after the initial blood results and no appointment with the endo still, another 6 weeks wait apparently even though it was out through as urgent as graves is inheditary and my cousin who started symptoms my age (30) had to have a pacemaker by 33 as she experienced a storm and it was dismisses initially. Lovely lol

If you do prove positive for Graves Disease and with over range TRab or TSI or readings of a TSH - Thyroid Receptor Blocking or Stimulating AB - antibody with a <> and range or number it will be a good idea to start a new post as this post is considered ' old and answered ' as best as we could at the time.

I found Elaine Moore's books and website the most well rounded of all I researched :

I have same thyroid results and my t3 is 6.4 and I feel exactly the same as you all what you described above iam reducing my dose now going from 2 grains ndt to 1.5 grains . I also stopped drinking alcohol and purging out with spots on my jaw chin all face and back I assume toxins are leaving my body and I can absorb better medication now ! I am starting to decrease my dose today and retest after 4-6 weeks . I feel extremely tired my body hurts so bad :(
