Could anyone confirm if antibiotics affect thyroid function? I take thyroxine at present and recently completed a two week course (two weeks ago on Tuesday). I took the first dose in the morning, an hour away from thyroxine as I couldn’t wait the two hours required due to timings through the day for the subsequent courses. I did take a probiotic drink during the treatment to try to help the gut microbiome as advised by the pharmacist.
I also have suffered a recent viral infection - one of quite a few over the last 6 months.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

-- but the only one I recognise as an antibiotic is rifampin.
I've taken flucloxacillin (which isn't listed in detail at drugs.com because it's not used in the USA) without problem, several times, but was very tired for the first few days of the course, last time. I should've sought advice, as indicated in the patient information leaflet, but problems with antibiotics often crop up at a weekend, and include not having any available!
Have you checked the patient information leaflet? Be very wary of pushing yourself after viral infections, especially the one those in authority appear to want us to forget about.
I suspect the antibiotics do affect thyroid function. I had to have two short consecutive courses of antibiotics last year and it took me months to feel normal again.
I have just begun another course of antibiotics, and I’ve never before felt so exhausted.
