T3 Dose

I've just received my T3 prescription and nervous to start after reading through posts on side effects! I'm on 125mg levo, no thyroid for 13 years and poor converter. My endo put me on 10mg twice a day, but having received good advice on here, I understand that I need to start on a much lower dose. My pills are 20mg so I have to cut them up as it is. Would 5mg once a day be OK to start with? Should I start with a dose an hour before dinner today or wait until the morning for the first dose with my levo? Thanks.

The endo's dosing will put you into overdrive!!

Start low and slowly build up

Can you cut to 2.5mcg twice a day (might be crumbs that you can pick up with a damp finger!)then after 2 weeks increase to 5mcg twice a day....repeat until you reach 10mcg twice a day

Timing depends on what suits you best...no reason why you can't start this evening, at least an hour before dinner

Suggest you keep a diary of doses, how you feel/ symptoms etc

As you add T3 both TSH and FT4 will begin to fall.

Thanks yes, I managed to cut one pill into 8 and get 2.5! Great little pill cutter I got off amazon! I'll start tomorrow 🤞 for no side effects.

Me too I cut mine into eights when I started, a pain but worth it. Good Luck.

Thanks, yes its a bit annoying but hopefully not for long! First dose taken this morning felt a bit nauseous even with 2.5. What dose of levo did you take along with T3? How long did it take to feel a difference in energy? I've started iron and vit d&k too, so I'm hoping for an improvement soon.

Unfortunately recovery can be a long slow process so patience plays a big part....wasn't my strong point but I knew I had to stick it out

It seems I made a very big mistake (early on) when being prescribed T3.

I started very low at 2.5mcgs. However that was not the mistake - I felt remarkably well on that tiny dose.

My mistake was in taking it only once per day.

T3 has a short half life and what seems to have happened to me was my body was crying out for it. My body lapped it up but soon recognised it was not getting enough and I went into a fairly sharp descent. On the Forum I was told I was making myself more hypo. Honestly it’s only now about two years later I have finally come to understand this. I needed a much longer explanation! It’s a tricky one to explain on here.

So my advice would be DO NOT TAKE IT JUST ONCE PER DAY whatever dose you decide on.

Otherwise as has been said before don’t start on the dose your doctor/endo has given you. “Slowly slowly, catchee monkee ”.

Not what you're looking for?
