Good morning all,

My daughter, diagnosed last summer, has thyroid blood tests scheduled for Monday morning (GP). However, she actively has Covid at the moment. Should we reschedule?

Thanks

J972 - Yes better to reschedule as viruses and even common colds can skew blood results👍

Absolutely; important for her results and also to help prevent the spread of viruses within GP surgeries.

Thanks.

I should’ve said, obviously have no intention of mixing with people whilst still positive, it was more a case of ‘will the effects of the virus affect the results’.

I’m also positive and have been since initial test Saturday. It seems like a virulent strain, naively thought we’d be clear by now!

It normally takes around six weeks for a virus to leave the body just in case that helps - hope you both feel better soon🤗

Blimey!

Thanks Delgor, not what we needed on top of everything else but there you go! Feeling much more human today 🤗

So pleased you are feeling a little better - take it easy for a while - be kind to yourself. xx

Yes I believe it will affect the results - it is now becoming quite common knowledge that Covid can and does inflame the thyroid - I am a firm believer that Long Covid is a thyroid problem caused by the virus.

don’t retest for at least 4-6 weeks after

Wow, thank you. Of course I’m now wondering whether the fact that I have Covid skewed my test from last week (private, fortunately).

Yes, and she should wait at least 4 weeks after she is covid free before testing.
