Anyone struggling with hypothyroidism and surgical menopause?

I could use support as I am struggling with both and trying to find how to distinguish which is causing my debilitating symptoms.

Also could oral progesterone be helpful with thyroid function or be the cause of hypothyroidism?

Any insight or support is greatly appreciated, I am new to the community , but so far has been great .

Regarding HRT, it may be useful to have a look at Dr Louise Newson’s free Balance App, as I find it really useful for comparing HRT medications & having up to date research articles. There is also an ability to post questions.

Hypothyroid and menopausal symptoms often overlap. It can be very tricky to work out what is at play!

Hi. I have only just started to look into thyroid issues so I don't have much knowledge about that I'm afraid. I have been in surgical menopause for a while and it is very difficult, I'm sorry you are struggling. It can be hard to find a GP or specialist that knows how to manage the symptoms of surgical menopause. There is a helpful group on Facebook 'hormone balance support group uk' which has lots of info on the benefits of Progesterone therapy and the links with thyroid issues/hormonal imbalance. It may be that 100 is too low a dose. I take 800 but my oestrogen is very high from having implants. If I take it orally it can more or less knock me out and make me feel very dizzy. I take vaginally and have less side effects. I agree it is difficult to know which symptom is caused by what. I am starting to look into thyroid as many symptoms are continuing even with a therapeutic dose of oestrogen/Progesterone and Testosterone. This group has been very helpful!

I have both hysterectomy and thyroid problems…. I would be surprised if they give you progesterone because of the hysterectomy for some reason they don’t think we need it …. The one thing I have noticed over the years is estrogen buildup which would cause me breast pains and it also cause some of my weight gain especially when my thyroid died.

My GP gave me a trial of progesterone even though I have a hysterectomy but I did not like it at all…. made me very anxious. But a friend of mine loves it as it makes her sleep well🤷‍♀️
