A better appointment today!

After months of visiting the doctors surgery and having small levo increases with no change in my symptoms i have finally seen a sympathetic and intrigued doctor. He was reading my notes whilst i was explaining my symptoms and that 50mcg levo isn't cutting it, he stopped me in my tracks and said "no need to carry on, you've made a good case and seeing from your records there is something not right. Especially with having a TPO level at 1274ui/ml"

He was then amazed and then asked why nobody has done a full blood work-up on me for over 8 months.

Next thing he said was that he will put me up another 25mcg, im to see him just for a welfare chat in 4 weeks and he has immediately referred me to a specialist endocrinologist.

Ive finally left the doctors positive for once!

what a lovely positive update

There are some good doctors out there 🙂

High thyroid antibodies confirms autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto’s

Looking at previous posts don’t think you have had vitamin levels tested or coeliac blood test yet

Make sure at next appointment you request that Vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 are tested

1.1.1 Offer serological testing for coeliac disease to:

people with any of the following:

persistent unexplained abdominal or gastrointestinal symptoms

faltering growth

prolonged fatigue

unexpected weight loss

severe or persistent mouth ulcers

unexplained iron, vitamin B12 or folate deficiency

type 1 diabetes, at diagnosis

autoimmune thyroid disease, at diagnosis

irritable bowel syndrome (in adults)

first‑degree relatives of people with coeliac disease.

sounds like he is a keeper!

Biff are you familiar with the NHS and Nice Guidelines? I feel this is a really good point for you to get ahead of the game and preemptively prepare for the Endo who actually, depending on who you get, may not be the step forward you hope for.

There is a pinned post by tattybogle that is worth a read and on the Thyroid UK site there are hypothyroidism myths - worth a copy. Many endocrinologists are not much more clued up on thyroid conditions than the average GP. I also have a pinned post about the NHS and nice guidelines that will hopefully help you.

Can you pickle him in vinegar to preserve him? For all things thyroid at least I suggest you try and see him each time. He sounds very on the ball.

What a pleasant change to hear about an open minded, progressive GP. Unfortunately we mostly hear the negatives on the forum.
