So today I finally went to see consultant after a left side hemithyroidectomy nearly 3 months agoand not seeing anyone post op.... I walk into office and was told straight away as it’s been confirmed I don’t have cancer and my numbers are in normal range I’m being discharged and if I have any symptoms or concerns to contact my gp who will now be in charge of my care.
I lost my head and pulled out an a4 pad full of symptoms that I am having which you can see on my previous posts and she said none are usually links to thyroid problems and seeing as mine is normal I need to see doctor!!!
Absolutely livid how shit the nhs are at dealing with these issues and feel so fed up of them not dealing with my symptoms and just looking at the numbers...
I’m at the end of my tether, felt disappointed as I’ve done so much reading on here and was fully armed with all the relevant symptoms what’s worsening etc and got nowhere!!!
Trying to book in to see my gp end of the week to see if they are gonna do anything else..

Not come across your previous posts. Did you get the actual test result details?
Really need to see those & their ranges to get any idea of what’s going on. No doubt Grey Goose can give you the full list of levels needing to be seen, including antibodies, vits & mins.
Your results aren't very clear. I can't make out an FT4 or an FT3. But, your TSH, whilst showing that your thyroid is now struggling, Isn't high enough to interest any doctor, I'm afraid. And, they usually only go by the TSH and know nothing about symptoms.
Endos are usually pretty useless with thyroid, so you might be better off with your GP. Keep testing, and once your TSH goes over-range, keep nagging until you get his attention. There's not much else you can do, except self-treat.

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised or if you are even slightly hypothyroid after loosing half your Thyroid

First step is FULL THYROID AND VITAMIN TESTING
Presumably you are NOT on any Levothyroxine?
All thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. (Do not take Levothyroxine dose in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take immediately after blood draw.) This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or vitamins
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).
About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's.
Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances are very common too, especially gluten. So it's important to get TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once .
Thank you for your input I think I will do some tests privately and go from there because I’m missing some even though I sent letter to doctor requesting the above tests but guessing he didn’t do. I have requested bloods taken after that last post and will collect this week. For some reason doctors not too happy I want copies every time but I’ve told him I want to closely monitor and be on top of my numbers😂.
You are really in the hands of whether your GP is open-minded enough to give you a trial of Levo or alternatively self-medicating as suggested by the sage greygoose. You could try asking or persuading your GP particularly if your T4 and T3 are not high in the normal ranges. (Or demanding - depends on what you think will work!) I’m sorry you have been treated so badly. How they think they can give you an operation to remove part of your thyroid and expect the rest to compensate and it make no difference is beyond me. I know some people are lucky with this - but not everyone. They really ought to want to monitor you more carefully over the next few months - I mean - bloody hell, it is the gland that controls your whole metabolism- not a bloody skin tag! How can that not be serious? And you are the only one who knows if you feel ‘normal’ for you. This is a classic case of treating the blood tests not the patient. You must collect some of the evidence and papers from this website and the wisdom and experience of so many on here to arm yourself to do battle with your GP. Just a thought - do you have any thyroid function blood tests from before the operation? They might help you to establish what your ‘normal’ levels are and help you to argue your case. Thank you for your response hun, I checked as I took picture of what bloods were taken in December and confirmed all the relevant ones mentioned by slow dragon above were requested on my blood form but gp only told me they all came back normal, did give levels. At that point whilst speaking over the phone to gp I requested I have copies again so I can monitor but not been able to get in yet as have been working over the Xmas period. My knowledge is improving so when I do get in I feel more confident in questioning my levels in the ‘Normal range’ . The only level I have from before the operation is my Tsh which has always sat between 0.75 and highest at 1.20 I think so increasing but not enough for gp to realise it’s causing issues
You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.
UK GP practices are supposed to offer online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.
In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet
If you live in the UK you are legally allowed copies of your results, my doctors surgury is very good and providing the doctor has seen them I can pick up copies shortly after asking. The last time I asked was when I was checking in to see the doctor, and she bought them through to me a few minutes later. Best of luck
