understanding recent blood test

hello everyone

My doctor has recently changed my thyroxine dosage to 125mg and 100mg on alternate days, based on these blood test results.

Any advice would be appreciated as I always feel I could feel better and very thin hair.

Blood test was before 9:00am and before meds.

Serum TSH LEVEL

0.08mlU/L (0.35-4.5)

Serum free T4 level

24.0 pmol/L(11.0-24.0)

Thanks in advance.

just testing TSH and Ft4 is completely inadequate

When were iron and ferritin last tested

Hairloss frequently linked to low iron/ferritin

Low vitamin levels also tend to result in poor conversion of Ft4 to Ft3 and results in lower TSH

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Testing options and includes money off codes for private testing

Only do private testing early Monday or Tuesday morning.

Medichecks and BH also offer private blood draw at clinic near you, or private nurse to your own home…..for an extra fee

So you are now on a reduced dose? If you don’t agree with the reduction you can refuse, particularly as FT3 doesn’t appear to have been tested. Has it been tested in the past?

If you have accepted the reduction , it’s hard to know whether you needed it or not based on the limited test you had. Your TSH was good at just under one, but your FT4 was very high. Whether or not you needed that dose decrease depends on whether your FT3 was also high, or low, and on whether or not you had any symptoms of over medication.

If you are now on the lower dose try to get both FT4 and FT3 tested in 6-8 weeks time. If your GP cannot test both you will probably need a private test. You can post again to find out about different testing options.
