Results interpretation please

Chasing-rainbows profile image

Hi, Please can you look at my latest thyroid results. Levothyroxine dose increased from 50 to 75mcg a couple of months ago now.Do these results suggest I am on the correct dose now?

Many thanks

TSH 1.2 mIU/L (0.27 - 4.2) 23.7%

Free T4 (fT4) 16.4 pmol/L (12 - 22) 44.0%

Free T3 (fT3) 4.4 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8) 35.1%

T4:T3 Ratio 3.727

How do you feel?

The results suggest you would benefit from another increase but it really depends on how you feel 🤗

Compared to your results on 50mcg fT4 16.5 and fT3 4.6... if you initially felt a little better on 75mcg and then declined then a little more is the way to go

That's really helpful thank you. Not feeling too bad at all at the moment, but definitely food for thought. Maybe I'll repeat the test in a couple of months and see how things are then?

Sounds like a plan 🤗

The trouble is we all have our own sweet spot so I would hate to say increase it if you feel good at this level... I would suggest keeping notes of how you feel and dates maybe adding to your Bio is a handy place.... if things start to slip then you can make very small adjustments to adjust things so don't feel you need to stick to 25mcg daily changes sometimes just a little extra a couple of times a week can be the answer, having too much feels as bad as too little 🙃

Some do have a summer and a winter dose regime

With TSH over 1 & free hormone results under 50% you probably need a dose raise.

How are vitamins looking and what are you supplementing with?

Thank you . I'm taking Bassets chewable multivitamins for women at the moment. Vitamins are usually OK just low ferritin but normal iron levels.

Vitamins being OK is a very different thing from them being optimal where they need to be for best use of thyroid hormone.

Multivitamins are not recommended in this group due to having too lower dose which this multi is guilty of. Neither does it have folate. The vit D content is terribly low and wont be enough for you at all.

I suggest you get your vitamin levels checked with a blood test. See link for companies offering private blood tests & discount codes, some offer a blood draw service at an extra cost.thyroiduk.org/testing/priva...

There is also a new company offering walk in (includes free blood draw) & mail order blood tests in London, Kent, Sussex & Surrey areas. Check to see if there is a blood test company near you. onedaytests.com/products/ul...

Only do private tests on a Monday or Tuesday to avoid postal delays.

Start a new post when you have the results and members will comment.

These were my last full results before dose increase. I've taken Thorne b in the past but struggle with swallowing tablets so switched to chewable for a change but can definitely switch back to Thorne b if that's better? GP recommended a multivitamin when discussing my low ferritin although diet is pretty good too.

Your folate is only 32% of the range and needs to be a lot higher. You could try the Igennus B complex which might be easier to swallow. Usual dose is 2 tablets a day.

Ferritin needs to be 90-100 so you have some work to do there with extra iron rich foods in your diet. More red meat and add in chicken livers or pate a few times a week.

B12 isnt terrible but could be improved with the B complex.

Vit D is fine.

As you have positive antibodies have you tried a strictly gluten free diet? This helps many people.

That's helpful thanks, I'll have a look for those ones you've recommended now.

we never recommend multivitamins

Most contain iodine not recommended when on levothyroxine

And at best a waste of money

What were most recent vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin results

These were my last full results. What would you recommend I supplement with based on these? Thanks again :)
