Heavy legs and low energy feeling

My recent thyroid results showed a below range T3, and I have been having trouble with a brand of thyroxine and feeling generally unwell as previously posted with some helpful advice.

But, I have a feeling of heavy legs and low energy and wondered whether when the T3 is low it can cause this? I am also trying to recover from what seems like an ongoing virus so am unsure if this has led to this feeling also.

Thank you in advance for any possible advice.

Are you still taking propranolol

If yes, how frequently

what vitamin supplements are you taking

When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 levels last tested

I had very poor strength especially in my legs when my T3 was virtually non existent. My entire body was effected really. Blurred vision, unable to stand up straight, heavy arms aswell as very heavy legs. Basically I had no energy to stand for even a short period of time. Do you have thyroid blood results TSH, T4 and T3. You can generally tell if you’re a poor converter of T4 to T3 when the T4 is high or top of the range and T3 at the bottom. I did the DIO2 gene test which came back positive meaning I have this faulty gene which indicates poor conversion T4 to T3. I went private. Started combined treatment t4 plus t3. Oh boy what a huge improvement. Suddenly I could do everything I wanted to do and more. I couldn’t believe the transformation. T3 combined with T4 may be your answer.

Hello, sorry to message back late but could you advise if your T3 was in range or below range? Also, where would I be able to get the gene test? I have a monitor my health test for thyroid if needed in the future but I can’t see the gene test on there.

My symptoms at present with palpitations also, are very like yours but if my T3 is low but within range and T4 in the upper part of range, I’m not sure the endocrinologist I see (haven’t seen him since March) would offer T3 to me.

I have had severe emotional stress over the summer and also physical pain and I am not sure this is causing the conversion issue if there is one (T3 5 weeks ago was low but within range and T4 upper part of range where it normally is).

Thank you for your help

Hi. My T3 was in range but very low 3.9 ( range 3.7-6.0). I was only converting 8% from T4. My T4 was high 14.00 ( range 7.86-14.4). So t4 at the top and T3 at the bottom. I could barely walk and I had virtually no energy. I had to lie down all day for months and helped to eat, bathe etc. god it was awful. After months of failed treatment by the NHS I went private only and was immediately put on T3 combined with T4 meds - it was nothing short of a miracle. Within 2/3 days I could actually sit up, stand up straight and walk normally. I went on to join a gym and continue to walk briskly every day 4 years on. I lost all the weight I’d piled on as my metabolic rate wasn’t functioning. I’ve lost over 4st and feel energised like never before all down to private only help and the magical T3 liothyronine. I later did the DIO2 gene test out of curiosity. My test came back positive and there was my answer as to why I’m such a poor converter. I had the test done through Regenerous laboratories which is promoted on here. It costs about £165 for the result and a person to interpret that result. The report came to me not my GP. I asked my GP to scan the report onto my NHS file. Next thing my NHS Endo who was dead against giving me T3 suddenly prescribed it. My GP told me my private endocrinologist influenced that decision. I lost my brilliant job after 18 months of hell through the NHS not prescribing a costly drug that clearly I needed. I’ll never trust the NHS again although my GP cannot do enough now to support me. Prior to all this I trusted the NHS. It definitely is a lottery depending on your illness.
