Iodine - no thyroid.

I had my thyroid removed in 2003 due to papillary cancer. I have struggled ever since finding the right dosage/supplements. I have just watched Dr Sarah Myhilll's thyroid video for the umpteenth time and have purchased some of her supplements even though some of them contain iodine.

Any thoughts please?

Margo I was on the other post too about this issue re: Dr. Myhill. First I wondered about people who have had their thyroid removed. I was thinking this must be ok for them re: iodine. Naive I know. So no. Do you think it could be about it blocking/interfering with uptake of our thyroid medication? If there is a lot of iodine in our thyroid medication are we in danger of overloading iodine then? And what would the potential outcomes of that be?

I understand that iodine is given to people who ‘acutely’ come in contact with radiation. A little blue pill. So the iodine contained in the pill allegedly stops the uptake of radiation within the thyroid. I always wondered about that because obviously the rest of the body won’t be stopped from picking up radiation so it’s not that great news.

But if our thyroids no longer work, why the need for more iodine in our bodies when we already take it in the form of thyroid hormones? Does Dr. Myhill differentiate the patients who maybe could benefit from iodine? They might still have a partially working thyroid. There is an awful lot about this view on the internet (usually from people selling vitamins and minerals etc)

Yes I am confused. I hope there is a simple reasoning.

Good morning, I like and admire Dr Sarah Myhill, and love her approach to all things regarding health. But for us folk without a thyroid things are not so straight forward, and it is very confusing when watching her videos. I have just purchased her Sunshine Salt which contains iodine, and bought some Luggols for my fiancé who definitely has a thyroid issue. However, I wouldn't take Luggols myself, but iodine is in foods that I like such as shell fish. Ever since I had my thyroid removed in 2003 it has been an uphill struggle getting the medication/food right. I am probably as good as I am ever going to be, life is good and at 71, thinking I have done my 3 score years and 10, I can relax a bit. I don't think a bit of iodine is going to kill me.

There are some great minds on this site, who will probably look at things in a more scientific angle and you may get an answer from that.

I also listen to Clive de Carle and would trust him as I do Dr Sarah, I might see if I can message him on this subject and see what he says.

I will check out this Clive de Carle too. Never heard of him.

He has the most soothing voice, and full of good advice, he himself had terrible health problems but he managed to overcome them with his own treatments/supplements. But he doesn't focus on thyroid, so maybe a request to do a video for people with thyroid issues/no thyroid could be a good idea. Richard Vobes has done videos with Dr Sarah Myhill and Clive de Carle and has an enormous following on health and basic common sense issues.

I have asked Dr Sarah Myhill regarding taking iodine. this is her reply:-

Absolutely!

Iodine has good anti-tumour activity too

With thyroid cancer it is so important to keep the dose of thyroid hormones high'ish so the TSH is suppressed = TSH is growth promoting to thyroid cells and if there are any lurking then that keeps them down!

OK Margo. Having no thyroid it does make more sense. However I see Baobabs has replied for Hashimotos with similar contact with Dr. Myhill. Also I will listen to this thing she does on YouTube that Baibab refers to.

Hello, just seen your post. I am aware of Dr Sarah Myhill's advice on iodine. I have spoken to her directly at a recent conference. I have Hashimotos and she has still recommended me to have iodine as she says, like many people, there is a pandemic of a lack of iodine and even though I have this condition, she has recommended me to take it. I always believed it was a no, no if you had thyroid issues.

Great, straight from the horses mouth. Wish I could ask her about people who do not have a thyroid.

She does have a once a month question and answer session on YouTube or Rumble platforms. She said how important iodine is for so many processes in the body.
