weight gain despite normal T3 levels

hi all

hope you’re well

I wanted some advice on continuing weight gain with suffering Hashimotos despite having a relatively high T3 level of 5.9 threshold being between 3.9-6.8

T4 is 13.3 (so slightly low but due to taking T3 medication)

And a suppressed TSH of 0.02.

I just wanted to get advice on what could be causing this as I try my best to eat well and a balanced diet, take probiotics and Vitmain D supplement and my T3 levels appear to be high so I’m not sure what’s causing the weight gain. Any thoughts would be massively appreciated ? Thank you :)

Hafsah it isn't just about ft3, ft4 needs to be at the right level for you too. Maybe your ft4 is too low for you. You haven't put a range on so can't see where your result sits.

so what exactly are you currently taking and how long on this dose

Many patients need BOTH Ft4 and Ft3 at least 50-60% through range

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Low vitamin levels are extremely common with Hashimoto’s

Are you on strictly gluten free diet and/or dairy free diet

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

On T3 - day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day with last dose 8-12 hours before test
