That's a good question but I'm not sure anyone knows the answer. In any case, I doubt there is just one answer that goes for everyone. With thyroid, symptoms and reactions are very individual.
I would hazard a guess that probably not for most people. But don't have enough data to really know. All I know is that hypos tend to need nutritional supplements for life, so one imagines that the stomach acid stays low, impeding absorption of nutrients.
But, it's complicated by the fact that being hypo is not the only cause of low stomach acid. It can also be caused by low B12 - which most hypos have - and low salt intake. And by getting older. And there's not much you can do about that.
Along with optimising thyroid hormones, I took Betaine HCL + pepsin to replace low gastric acid and encourage improved production. Gastric acid helps a multitude of things just as many factors will help stimulate gastric acid secretion.
If you are naturally low in gastric acid you may find digestive enzymes and even some gall bladder support useful just for a short time.
Radd Tks, I did take digestive enzymes for quite a while, then accupunturist suggested what you have mentioned…betaine hcl & pepsin 650mg 1 daily and I had bad indigestion after few days on it so stopped. He said it shouldn’t have caused that. I don’t have any digestive symptoms touch wood but I would like my stomach acid up.
Years of unmanaged hypothyroidism slows everything down and a sludgy gall bladder is common. Also pain, stones, etc. Eating a low fat anti-inflammatory diet helps.
I originally supplemented ox-bile to help but now years later am detoxing mould so helping things along with Nutri's Gallbladder Plus .. .. nutriadvanced.co.uk/gall-pl.... . Have also tried Seeking Health's Gallbladder Nutrients as a good all-rounder .. .. amritanutrition.co.uk/produ...
