Hi, got this test done a week ago and the results are 1.26 IU/L (<1.75) so antibodies are not raised. I was querying Hashimotos or Graves so I assume this rules out Graves but does not confirm Hashimotos? Thanks
TSH RECEPTOR ANTIBODIES RESULTS: Hi, got this... - Thyroid UK
TSH RECEPTOR ANTIBODIES RESULTS
It's not always possible to confirm Hashi's, but you do need your TPO antibodies and your Tg antibodies tested. If they are over-range, then they do confirm Hashi's - although TgAB can be high for other reasons, it they are very high, that is more than likely Hashi's.
However Hashi's antibodies fluctuate a lot, so need to be caught at the right time. Which is why we always say you cannot rule it out on the basis of one negative blood test. You would need at least three negative results to probably rule it out. And, even then, it is possible to have Hashi's without ever having over-range antibodies, and only be diagnosed on the basis of an ultrasound to the thyroid. So, it's not as clear-cut as Graves'.
Thank you for your reply. My Thyroglobulin Antibodies are 337.00 (0-115) and Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies 11 (0-34) - does this give any more indication? Its so complicated!
Hey there again :
I would think you are dealing with Hashimoto's Auto immune thyroid disease and likely also dealing with Thyroid Eye disease.
Have a look at the The Eye Disease Charitble trust tedct.org.uk as they can signpost you to your nearest clinic where you will find an endo and an eye consultant working together with you, to find the best way forward for you, as mentioned in a previous reply to you in another post.
For Hashimoto's many people follow the research and suggestions of Dr Izabella Wentz - thyroidpharmacist.com
Thyroid antibodies tend to wax and wane - whether they be Graves or Hashimoto's and I think you are dealing with the latter, as you don't stop and start Carbimazole when you have ' swings in symptoms ' and transient symptoms of thyroid overactivity.
Thyroid UK - the charity who support this forum hold a list of patient to patient recommended supportive, thyroid specialist, both NHS and private, maybe email admin @thyroiduk.org for the list and see who is on there, within your catchment area for a NHS referral through your doctor or privately.
Many consultants are still offering video consults so distance does not necessarily matter if you find someone you would like to see.
