Hi

anyone have any knowledge as to whether it is not advisable to take chlorella if you have Hashimotos since it contains a small amount of iodine?

alchemilla12,

Sorry you haven't received a timely response. My answering will move it back onto the daily feed for members to re-view.

You need to check out the iodine content of the specific product you are considering and the dose you intend to take.

Once you have done that you can rationally consider how that compares with your existing intake - in food/drink, etc., and in the form of thyroid hormones.

Until you do that, any assessment is pretty much pure guesswork.

Suggest you post again when you have this information.

(Not meaning you have to commit yourself to any particular product/dose but without considering real numbers, you are not getting even a potentially real answer.)

yes I know how much is in the product ( ( 0.1 g per daily recommended amount of 10 caps ) but I have no idea what my intake is or what the suggested maximum levels of intake should be -is that latter info available as far as Hashimoto patients are concerned?

0.1 g is 100 milligrams.

100 milligrams is 100,000 micrograms.

Standard adult iodine requirement said to be 150 micrograms. (It is impossible to completely avoid iodine and intake up to this level seems reasonable.)

So that would be 667 times the standard daily requirement. An astronomic and massive dose.

Even if you consider 150 micrograms to be too low, it is impossible to see this as a sensible intake.

Something appears wrong - either their claims or the numbers/units.

You can assess your intakes by noting down what you consume and checking typical iodine content. Lots of things can be largely ignored because they contain so little.

oh yes something seems to be off in that amount.- maybe they meant 0.1 mcg

The company first said the iodine content of the powder was 10-50 mg per kg - Maths not my forte so I asked them for an amount per daily dose which is 10 tablets at 200 mg per tablet .

your input is much appreciated but I suspect I wont bother in the end!
