Kidneys and Hashimotos

Hi all,

I am waiting for an endo appt in June to see if I need to go into Levo or T3.

I get kidney pain in the morning after eating sugar/carbs the night before, which I am attempting to minimise.

Can I ask if anyone has had the same thing, and if so, whether they have seen improvements after going onto Levo, or whether any supplements have helped?

Thanks!

Sorry you've not had any replies yet.

Has your doctor tested kidney function blood test?

How have improving your nutrients gone?

Is your appointment with NHS or private? usually GPs manage hypothyroidism. Above range TSH is criteria for monitoring - 2x above range TSH within 3 months should prompt replacement treatment.

Info in you bio - hemi-thyroidectomy due to nodule & diagnosed Hashimoto’s. Positive antibodies? & thyroid surgery gives strong grounds to start levo. Before allowing levels reach abnormal levels.

Thanks very much for your reply, PurpleNails. I am due to get some more blood tests next week, although I already know that my ferritin levels seem to have gone slightly down since early March, ( now at 28 from34) in spite of taking an iron tablet every day.

I don’t think that I have “traditional” hypothyroid symptoms, so am trying to see if any of the symptoms I am experiencing might or might not be Hashis related; I don’t want to go onto Levo unless I have to!

That’s understandable but don’t think of it as a medication / drug, it’s a hormone replacement.

Having a struggling thyroid, especially long term can contribute to nutrients falling, likely why symptoms can seem so varied & individual.

I had hyper but had typical hypo symptoms. Doctors assume you must have the most severe & common symptoms for it to be diagnosed.

thank you; happy to have it when I need it, but want to make sure that I really need it! And so much seems to be potentially menopause or something else; want to, as much as possible, make sure that I am targeting the right issues.
