Wow the NHS has been a joke for me.

So hi anyways I’m 22 guy diagnosed with hypothyroidism that’s been very up and down.

Onto the point, so I was going back through my nhs records for blood results so on two separate occasions in 2015 and 2017 so when I was 14 and 16. I had a TSH of 9.3 and 11.2 and low T4 levels but wasn’t treated at all for it despite this.

Is this common practice because I was going through puberty idk but that just seems mental to me.

The important question now is, " How do you feel?"

If you were diagnosed as hypo why are you still untreated...were you given a reason/ excuse!

Puberty can affect thyroid function and can be transient

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/127....

But...

To establish your current thyroid status I'd suggest you have a full thyroid test to include....

TSH, FT4, FT3,vit D, vit B12, folate, ferritin and thyroid antibodies.

Test at 9am, at least an hour away from food and drinks and, if on levo, 24 hours after last dose and after at least 6wekson a steady dose of hormone

Your GP may not do all tests but you can test privately

thyroiduk.org/help-and-supp...

Are you being medicated,, if so, what are you prescribed.

TSH is not a reliable marker....though many ill informed medics think otherwise which is resulting in wrong diagnoses and wrong ( orno) medication

thyroidpatients.ca/2021/07/...

If your labs are fluctuating you may have thyroid autoimmune disease, aka Hashimoto's. This is a common cause of hypothyroidism

I'm afraid NHS treatment of thyroid disease is shockingly poor which is why well over 130,000 concerned patients have arrived here seeking help

If you manage to obtain more results, and I advise that you do, then post them here including all reference range and we will advise.

Good luck!

Edit....sorry I should have checked your bio before replying! The above still applies.

Just checked your earlier posts....your medication has been somewhat irregular!

Anxiety is a major hypothyroid symptom....and you are either under or wrongly medicated. As is weight gain.

The heart needs a lot of T3

Your vit D was /is miserably low which will affect thyroid function....asis B12 and folate. Has ferritin been tested!

I see now you have Hashi's.....I doubt you were hyper but were experiencing a transient Hashi swing.

You have been mucked about enough and that needs to stop.

A full test after at least six weeks on a steady dose is the best way to start.....stopping and starting medication would do you no favours. But you understood this better than your medics I think.

Time to get you feeling better!

Oh recently I had my tests done.

TSH was like 22 (0.5-4)

T4 was 8.5 (12-22)

I can’t remember T3 but it’s usually middle. My vitamins are always low and I supplement for them all the time but for some reason see little improvement.

Honestly I feel dreadful I was put back on 50mg two weeks ago after being off it for like 2 months because I went hyper. Doctors don’t seem to understand how crap I feel,

No wonder you feel crap!

Your doctor is clueless!

Unless FT3 is over ref range you are not hyper!

As I suggested above....a Hashi swing!

Your doctor hasn't looked beyond TSH which is high but in isolation ( and when medicated) tells us very little

And, your FT4 is miserably low as are your nurients.

You need more levo. 50mcg ( not mg) is only a starter dose

After 6 + weeks on a constant, steady dose test again. You will need a 25mcg increase.

Vital both FT4 and FT3 are both tested.

Repeat testing after 6+ weeks and likely increase by another 25mcg

Repeat testing as before

Those labs will then start to show your thyroid function, and if you are adequately converting T4 to T3

But...take this one steady step at a time!!

There is no quick cure....but a remedy does exist..

Be patient! I have a complicated thyroid condition and it took me about 3 years to find my therapeutic dose....doctors failed to help me so I had to go off piste and self medicate. You are not remotely near that point!!

I understand how you feel, like many here I've gone through some very dark times.

But....with the correct treatment you will feel better....so chin up, learn about your condition and head for the light at the end of the tunnel.

We're all here to help...so just ask.

Your GP could have started you back at 75mcg

So you need to retest in 6-8 weeks on 50mcg

Likely to be more than ready for next increase after next test

Try taking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar twice a day before meals. It will increase stomach acid so that you can absorb nutrients better. (Hypothyroidism reduces stomach acid and hinders nutrient absorption.) If you prefer there are apple cider vinegar tablets.
