Is it right that if you are under medicated for Hashimoto it can lead to getting nodules, pre-type 2 diabetes?

It seems I am feeling good on my 50mcg of Levothyroxine for many years. However, if I calculate the dose per my weight I have to be on 100mcg. There are some things that also bother me like my elevated cholesterol and HbA1c plus it seems I got some nodules during past years.

I am slim and energetic and I still see via blood tests and ultrasound that something is metabolically happening in my body.

I am a bit concerned that if I increase my dose of Levo I may not be feeling that well however, if I stay on 50 mcg it may perhaps worsen my condition.

Just wonder if all the issue is in the dose of Levothyroxine.

Being under medicated can cause many symptoms and long term health conditions that an increase in dose will cure, espcecially raised cholesterol.

Looking at your results from 3 months ago you are certainly under replaced and your health would benefit from a dose increase.

Once we need treatment for hypothyroidism there is usually damage to the thyroid that will never be repaired and we need to accept the need for pills to do the job that our bodies were once able to do themselves.

I would recommend that you insist your GP increases your dose.

previous post shows you are under medicated

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Request increase in levothyroxine to 75mcg and 50mcg alternate days initially

Retest 6-8 weeks later

Likely to need to increase to 75mcg daily after this

Retest again in further 8-10 weeks

low GFR and being hypothyroid

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

The GFR is reversibly reduced (by about 40%) in more than 55% of adults with hypothyroidism[40]

Checked your post of results and lipid tests look good apart from your LDL - triglycerides are great, below recommended minimum (mine are also low but probably due to taking a statin). You want your HDL High and your LDL Low (H for High and L for Low). There are suggested diet changes on the internet for lowering your LDL. NHS trust info for patients is usually reliable. However beware of increasing Soya and taking levothyroxine. Make sure there is at least an hour after taking levo before any foods and the levo should work better.

Hi..,I would like to lower my LDL however, I am not sure if I increase my Levo dose it will go down. When I initially started Levo it had to go down but it did not. I was on a strict plant based no gluten no diary no eggs etc and only then LDL got a bit down. Yes I always wait 1 hour after taking Levo - Tirosint - to be exact.

You may find this article of interest. A vegan diet, which you implied you are on is normally good at lowering LDL. There is a warning about some vegan meat substitutes which have substantial amounts of palm oil. Read the label…

I have hypothyroidism and high LDL and increase in levo actually did lower my LDL … their is a connection but doctors are blind to this scientific fact.

Remember, once you are taking levothyroxine, and especially when you have been on a stable dose for a while, changes should almost always be made cautiously - by 12.5 or, at most, 25 micrograms per day. Then re-assessed.

helvella's calculation document and spreadsheet can be can be found by following this link:

Cholesterol levels have nothing to do with diet. It's made in the liver and the liver keeps levels steady by adjusting output according to what you eat: eat more foods high in cholesterol and the liver makes less, and vice versa.

High levels of cholesterol are more than likely due to low FT3 because when T3 is low,t he body cannot process cholesterol correctly - transport it to where it's needed in the body and excrete any excess - so it tends to build up in the blood. Increase your T3 and cholesterol levels will drop.

Or, it could be due to high levels of inflammation in the body, which means that cholesterol production is increased to repair damage caused by inflammation. Your whole body is constructed of cholesterol: brain, cell walls, sex hormones... Lowering it too much will put your health in danger.

Hello, have you heard of the coimbra protocol? My daughter has Hashimoto's and an endocrinologist that I found on the internet is treating her to remove the action of the antibodies that attack your organs (mainly with vitamin D, magnesium, selenium, no gluten or dairy) I I also had Hashimoto's but I already had so many nodules and thyrotoxicosis that I had to have my thyroid removed. Now I know that many of the symptoms were due to antibodies, which is the root of the problem.

You can take a look at the following link.

thank you very much I will have a look. I know that many go to nutritionists and wholistic doctors to deal with Hashimoto. I also would love to find one. Does your daughter have positive results?
