Moving and liothyrinine

Live in Dorset and been prescribed liothyrinine since 2012 through endocrinologist. I am moving to Brighton at end of month and petrified it won't be prescribed. I moved there before and wouldn't prescribe and then returned to Dorset. I have seen endocrinologists once a year here. Does anyone know anything about Brighton prescribing it. If they refuse what do I do. I will be ill without it. I am taking 60 MCG a day. No levothyroxine. I felt ill taking it as I took for a few years. Had terrible fatigue and did not agree with me

Brighton still difficult

99 prescriptions in last year

openprescribing.net/analyse...

Dorset 635 prescriptions in last year

Is private prescription an option

Thybon Henning 20mcg tablets at £60-£80 per 100 tablets

Which brand of T3 are you currently taking

List of thyroid specialists and endocrinologists who will prescribe T3 …..some are private and NHS

Improve Thyroid Treatment campaign on Facebook have had a lot of dealings with Sussex and might have recommendations of specific endo in Sussex

I can only take mercury pharma. It's written on prescription. What should I do when I get there ? I can't afford private prescription. I am recieving pension credit as low income

You presumably currently have an NHS endocrinologist who you see annually?

Request letter from endocrinologist to give your new GP outlining your current treatment and the necessity to remain on 60mcg Mercury Pharma T3

It’s not a guarantee that the GP would honour it……but it’s a start

You could possibly continue to see your current NHS endocrinologist once a year?

If not …..look for another nearer Brighton

Highly likely you will need to get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing done yourself at least annually

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Many (most?) thyroid patients need to supplement at least vitamin D, magnesium and Vitamin B complex continuously to maintain optimal vitamin levels

Do you have Hashimoto’s

Are you on strictly gluten free diet and/or dairy free diet

I take vit d . Vitamin b complex but not magnesium. Could I keep seeing endo in Dorset once a year. The surgery I am with here has nothing to do with prescribing my T3 only endo. Would I be entitled to see NHS endo in Brighton?

Hi is it Mary s you can put me in touch with? I have already spoken to her. She said can't help other than saying I have to prove I have clinical need unless there is someone else you are thinking of. I am desperate to stay on it as felt so ill and couldn't function at all on thyroxine. I am well on liothyrinine and have been on it since 2012.

Ah yes, it was her I was thinking of. But we may have more members in your area - I'm not aware of where everyone lives. So please post your question

you need to test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin at least annually

Ideally test vitamin D twice year…..September and January/February

all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

On T3 - day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day with last dose 8-12 hours before test

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Can you keep your Dorset endo team? I have moved to Hampshire from Gloucestershire and have kept my endo team rather than changing. I believe this is a patient right but worth checking on that.
