Moving and prescribed t3

I am moving in September to Salisbury. I am prescribed liothyrinine 50 MCG daily. Does anyone live in Salisbury area? Am petrified it will be stopped. I see an endocrinologist in Poole once a year who first prescribed it.

Poole is only an hours drive from Salisbury. Maybe you can continue with the Endo in Poole?

Depends if you if you inform your GP of your change of address or not! If you don’t advise them, it will make visiting your doctors a long trip round, but you might still be able to keep your endo. Tricky decision.

You could postpone dealing with it by 'forgetting' to mention you've moved , and paying the Royal Mail to re-direct your mail for a year.

I got away with keeping my old GP for 3 yrs like this, and it was only my daughter needing an operation that made a receptionist notice something was'off'.

So if you can still manage to travel to old GP you could develop a memory problem for a while, while you check out what to do next.

Royal Mail allow redirection for two years. Just an FYI.

I had to travel to Salisbury from Weymouth for a 3d imaging scan and Blanford for an Allergy test so I cant see why you cant keep your Endo .

Hi, I’ve seen it suggested before to ask the local chemists if they issue t3 to anyone and then ask the issuing surgery or dr, hopefully you can get an solution that way.

Good luck.

Get as far ahead as you can with your current T3 prescription before you move, so you have as much 'stock' of T3 as you can get.

It looks like Salisbury CCG does allow T3. I think several local CCGs merged in April, but the link below still works. Have you been seeing an NHS endo, as that could make a difference?

I see a NHS endo in Poole once a year. He just reviews it. Does it say Salisbury CCG allows it? Do you think I could just carry on seeing endo in Poole? Even if living in different county

If you read that link, it says it can be prescribed an NHS endo. If you'd been seeing one privately, I assume you'd have to go to the beginning of a referral system to see a Salisbury NHS endo. But it looks like Salisbury GPs can prescribe T3 if you've had a successful trial from an NHS endo.

Ask your Poole endo to write to your new Salisbury GP saying you need your T3 continuing, and you've had a successful trial from him.

I'm thinking about moving so asked my endo whether she would support me in continuing to be prescribed T3. She suggested continuing to be seen at the hospital I've been going to for years even though where I moved to would come under a different NHS body. It sounds as though you could still be seen in Poole (if that's still OK for you).

She did say that I would have to make sure a new GP would be prepared to take on my T3 prescription. Something to check before registering.

I moved to a different county. I checked with pharmacist in new area which GP surgery had patients on T3. My prescription was stopped. I saw an Endo and he wanted to prescribe it but couldn’t. I now have a private Endo who does prescription for me to purchase from Germany.

I’m not far from Salisbury and do not get my T3 from my GP. I saw an Endo. at Salisbury Hospital many years ago who queried my supraphysiological dose, said that he could prescribe 60mcg and he’d get back to me but never did and I’ve heard nothing more about it. I moved counties from Wiltshire to Hampshire; my new surgery told me to keep buying my T3 privately. The old one in Wiltshire stopped my T3 without notice saying that I was not hypothyroid at all. Seems to be a lucky dip. Many years previously my GP in Dorset asked an endocrinologist at Bournemouth if she would see me and she refused as I was taking NDT at the time.

I think just pot luck. I am petrified it will be stopped

The fall-back is buying privately; not ideal but better than no T3.

It is my understanding you can request to see any endo anywhere in the country.

Since you are already under the care of an endo stay with him/her. Far too many will not prescribe T3. Your new gp cannot refuse to issue your prescription once it is requested by an endo. Get yours to write to the new gp. Good luck with your move.

Not what you're looking for?
