test results

hi, can someone please help with my results. I have been very run down for months with chronic fatigue and dementia symptoms. Also TIA symptoms in July and have not felt ok since.

my b12 results are high which I believe is because I was taking supplements prior to testing so need to retest in a few months.

I have no idea what to request next from my GP but I feel dreadful. GP reported all my results as normal range where as medichecks have not.

Any advice appreciated.

What B12 supplement were you supplementing with?

And have you supplemented with folate?

For the body to make use of any B12 you have it must have reasonable levels of folate. Your folate is not terribly good (but also not terribly bad). I would suggest that it should be raised to a level of about 20.

There are multiple different kinds of B12 and folate supplements and they aren't all suitable for everyone. Some of them have to be converted from one form to another before the body can make use of them, and not everyone can do that conversion very well.

If you supplement B12 in future please try methylcobalamin and possibly adenosylcobalamin. Both the ones I've mentioned are active without conversion.

perniciousanemia.org/b12/le...

The second link above is discussing serum B12 levels not active B12 levels like you've had tested which makes it less useful, but it might be of interest.

Methylcobalamin is easily sourced on Amazon or other supplement sites. Some supplements contain both methyl and adenosyl versions of B12, e.g.

cytoplan.co.uk/vitamin-b12-...

To supplement folate the best ones are methylfolate or metafolin - whatever you do, avoid folic acid.

Your MCV (Mean Cell Volume or Mean Corpuscular Volume i.e. the average size of red blood cells) is over the range i.e. red blood cells are large. This usually happens when B12 and folate are too low and the condition is called macrocytosis.

The condition and some causes are listed on this link :

Hi. I was taking vitamin b complex weeks prior to the medichecks test. It was the b12 group who suggested I may have pernicious anemia as my b12 998 and folate >20 were high on my Gp results.

The b12 group admin have now suggested I request advice on here as my thyroid result is abnormal. I honestly haven’t got a clue anymore. They did advise me not to take any supplements and use injections only due to my neurological symptoms.

Do I need to see my gp regarding the abnormal thyroid result and elevated HS CRP?

Thank you

Note that with Medichecks it is possible to get a PDF report of all your results from an individual test package by going to the website, click on "My results", then "My latest tests", click on the test package you want a report for, then click near the top of the page where it says "Printable Results Report".

The output is easier to read than the results you've posted.

Your TPO antibodies are above range indicating autoimmune thyroid disease

Ft4 is the main storage hormone

Ft4 is very low, suggesting your thyroid is struggling

FT4: 13 pmol/l (Range 12 - 22)

Ft4 is only 10.00% through range

FT3 = active hormone

FT3: 4 pmol/l (Range 3.1 - 6.8)

Slightly better at 24.32% through range…..but still too low

TSH = message from pituitary to tell thyroid to work

This should be higher when Ft4 and Ft3 are low

You need referral to endocrinologist for evaluation for central hypothyroidism

CRP is high. This is test for inflammation

GP retest again and investigate possible causes

Have you had cholesterol levels tested?

Yes my cholesterol is all good.

I believe I have a cranial csf leak so wonder if that has anything to do with the pituitary bit?

I’m waiting results back for celiac as definitely had gluten sensitivity all my life but just avoided it.

I have been so poorly and ended up in hospital in July with TIA symptoms but was dismissed. I’ve not been right since and my blood pressure has also been spiking.

I was fit and athletic prior to this year. Always 100 miles an hour and now I have no life and I’m off sick from work.

I will contact my gp tomorrow but they are not very good.

Thank you for your help

have you had MRI of your head?

Roughly where in U.K. are you

Suggest a referral to pituitary expert endocrinologist, there’s at least one on the list below who’s pituitary specialist

hi

Yes when I was in hospital with TIA symptoms and it’s clear but MRIs fo not show leaks a lot of the time. I have found a specialist who deals with csf leaks and awaiting appointment.

I have been treated like I’m crazy and symptoms all in my head when in reality I’ve seen so poorly with zero energy. My cholesterol is in normal range but I did think it was high for me as I’m (was)healthy and athletic and it’s usually low.

It’s funny as pituitary causes of thyroid are linked to csf leaks so it’s another piece of the puzzle. Is the thyroid likely to be the cause of my other elevated bloods or is that a b12 issue?

It’s sad that these are treatable conditions and I’ve been wrote off as having anxiety because I’ve been crying at every appointment due to the way I feel. One neurologist said “you spin too many plates and your plates have broke, stop looking for reasons and answers and see a psychologist,oh but there’s non on the NHS”😢

I’m going to book a private consultation with an endocrinologist and go from there. There is definitely a thyroid problem isn’t there? (I’m gaslighting myself now)

Sorry for long post and thank you so much for your reply.

Will send you pm

Raised antibodies and low Ft4 suggests that thyroid is contributing to symptoms
