Moviprep Colonoscopy Preparation

Hi, As anyone had any experience of using Moviprep as a bowel cleanser before a colonoscopy?

I was diagnosed with AFib last year as well as having Hypothyroidism and am a bit concerned as had no feedback to my questions from the Gastro Dept.

In the PIL (patient information leaflet) it mentions the following listed below which is of concern to me.

The following information is intended for healthcare professionals only:

Moviprep should be administered with caution to fragile patients in poor health or patients with serious clinical impairment such as:

• impaired gag reflex, or with a tendency to aspiration or regurgitation • impaired consciousness

• severe renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min)

• cardiac impairment (NYHA grade III or IV)

• those at risk of arrhythmia, for example those on treatment for cardiovascular disease or who have thyroid disease

• dehydration

• severe acute inflammatory bowel disease

The presence of dehydration or electrolyte shifts should be corr

As I am having the procedure at 11:00 and is classed as a morning appointment so cannot eat after 08:00 and finish by 09:00 the previous day will be fasting for at least 26hours plus, any suggestions and experience of what to drink to help whilst fasting and between the two lots of Moviprep to keep electrolytes etc up as looking at different NHS trust and there are wide disparities even in how long to be on the low residue diet.

I usually take an Omeprazole before fed as I am one of the few who does not have low stomach acid with Hashimoto's and it will be after or during the 2 rounds of preparation drinks, any advice on this.

I have opted for no sedation to prevent any other issues.

Thank you in advance for any replies as they will be much appreciated.

I had the same procedure (and Moviprep) a couple of years ago…also have Hashimoto’s and AF.

I’m sorry I can’t remember any details other than to say that I followed the advice on the leaflets and was absolutely fine. Like you, I was anxious about it all, but the prep and fasting were surprisingly fine. I also chose no sedation.

You may get more help by going onto the crohns and colitus UK forum with your question as they will no doubt be experts in this area. Good luck with your procedure and I hope will be well for you.

Hi thyreoidea❤️

I had this procedure in May this year my 4th one🙈.. I have no thyroid and have colitis, the other 3 procedures I chose the gas and air but because I'm having bowle problems a lot of cramping and inflammation due to the thyroid medication I chose to have sedation this time.

No one mentioned anything to me about the things you have mentioned in your post.

I wondered if it was worth trying to take my T3 medication as you have very loose bowels then it's mainly water you pass, but when I asked no one really helped saying "just take the prep as directed" 🙄

I also found keeping the prep in the fridge was more palatable and you can mix it with a small amount of barley juce to, and you can drink water in between .

I also take omeprazole but didn't take it the day I took the prep, my appointment was also for 11am.. also I was told by a nurse through my 3 other colonoscopys that as soon as your passing a straw coloured liquid then the prep as worked. 👍
