I really can’t tell from the Green Book gov.uk/government/publicati... Are people with hypothyroidism eligible for the vaccine this autumn or not?

From what I can see, hypothyroidism does not affect eligibility at all.

If you are eligible, you remain eligible.

If you are not eligible, you remain ineligible.

If there were any changes they would be due to untreated very severe hypothyroidism, or being treated with medicines identified in the Green Book (steroids being the obvious category but do check in detail).

I find it bizarre that people under 16 with any endocrine diagnosis are eligible, but those between 16-65 are only eligible with certain endocrine diagnosis. Although the word “including” may suggest others. Not very clear. 😠

Hi HealthStarDust,

I think I'd look at the other categories and see if you fit into any of those.

For example, do you help any older relatives so you could be described as being a carer so would be considered to be eligible?

I don't feel that the categories are particularly helpful; I know of two people that are permanently bed bound they struggle to get their booster booked. Totally ridiculous situation as they should be first to be offered one 🤷🏼‍♂️

Oh, I’m eligible alright. I’m just curious about this, and I am a bit furious that those with thyroid disease are not exclusively eligible.

well I qualify for covid boosters due to immunosuppressive treatment but cannot seem to get myself onto the ‘official’ list and it requires huge effort every time to get the booster. My GP records are correct but the DH algorithm isn’t.

It appears to me that there may also be some individual flexibility within the GP surgeries themselves. Especially once the initial rush has worn off and they still have supplies left over that they are keen not to waste. Might simply be worth asking rather than waiting to be called? It feels like a lot of NHS stuff is about patient action rather than following a central system these days. At least in some places....

I am a bit concerned about the 'flu jab in one arm and Covid in the other' approach. Lots of older folk who had that last year near me felt very poorly for a while. And we are probably more vulnerable than most not just to the vaccs themselves but the substances/preservatives they are held in, are we not?

I shan't be going down that road myself. I'll have to have the Covid jab whenever they let me but you can buy a flu jab in most pharmacies for about £20. Feels safer to do it a month apart - but maybe that's just me.

I always got the flu jab separately throughout the years. About a month apart from the Covid vaccine. I’m eligible anyway, so I’m not worried. I know I’ll get a notification to book the vaccine as I have done previous years (all things being equal) but I don’t believe for a minute that it’s because they don’t want any vaccines wasted. GPs get paid loads for every vaccine the use! A single appointment for which they get paid for can be a few words text message.

Don’t believe any of they hype.

I just don’t get why all people with any endocrine issues aren’t exclusively eligible except if you are under 16. It makes no sense.

Yep, totally agree. Irrational.

So maybe I was being naive about their less than altruistic reasons for using up all the vaccine :) hey ho, nothing surprises me these days.

You can have them together I think if it’s within 4 hours, but if it’s any longer they then say not to have them in such close proximity. I can’t remember the gap they advise, or why this should be.

I’ve had flu in one arm and covid in the other twice and it was fine both times. So I’d go for that every time if I could. The only covid vaccine that made me feel ill (3 days in bed ill) was AZ . Pfizer and Moderna did not seem to affect me negatively at all. I suppose people vary in these matters. I’m mid 60’s age wise

Apparently Tesco are going to be giving FREE flu shots and you can buy a covid shot for about £20.

There are mounting case studies and research / evidence regarding covid vaccine, 'gene therapy' and here, in a health forum, we should be able to discuss this without being censored. Yes, many are afraid to discuss the mounting evidence that this 'vaccine' has caused far too many major problems and that subsequent 'boosters' may not be viable either. And no, I'm not an anti-vaxxer, just an academic who works within the academic/science publishing network and are mirroring major, major concerns.

Increasingly we're living in a toxic environment with growth enhancers & vaccines being injected to the very food we eat. Having thyroid issues is devastating for many of us. And for many of us, doctors have simply repeated parrot-fashion what the pharmaceutical manufacturers hand out regarding dosage. They never ask, 'why?' when we don't feel better.

I find it weird that a sister nearly died of covid in the first wave but I have never had it. There weren’t any vaccines at first, of course, but I’ve had all the shots. All my friends have succumbed to it vaccinated or not. I presume it’s just a matter of time in my case and it will get me eventually, but I sometimes wonder if some other earlier bug I had might have afforded some ability to fight it off so it couldn’t take hold. The AZ made me feel really terrible but the mRNA ones have not. I guess it will be decades before we know if they work and what is the price we pay for having the vaccines &/the virus.

I took my chance with the vaccines after seeing what it did to her - it was really frightening.
