HbA1c : hi is this results per diabetic my doctor... - Thyroid UK
HbA1c
HBA1c measures the sugar attached to the haemoglobin, so it should give an average reading from past few months. (The life of a red blood cell) An average is said to be more useful than a random reading. Unless your haemoglobin is very abnormal, your results should be accurate.
* HbA1c below 41 mmol/mol (6.0%): Non-diabetic
* HbA1c between 42 and 47 mmol/mol (6.0–6.4%): Impaired glucose regulation (IGR) or Prediabetes
* HbA1c of 48 mmol/mol (6.5%) or over: Type 2 diabetes
Yours is under 41 so 37 is normal. Once in pre diabetic range doctors tend to monitor more frequently. Sometimes you are offered a course or healthy eating programme.
Mine was 53 the endocrinologist freaked & said this is terrible more serious than thyroid, when was I diagnosed diabetic? (I hadn’t been). Said to urgently see GP for medication and join a trial program. GP said 53 was mild, you won’t need medication if you reduce carbs. Hasn’t heard of programme, when I pushed & was given a slimming world referral. Never used is as lock down happened.
I used an app to track calories & carbs, lost weight & got to pre diabetes levels.
Hi Thyroid36,
Do you have any results for your vitamin D levels?
When I had a deficiency I was experiencing daily headaches that were severe and made me feel very unwell.
I now know that being a bit hypoglycemic can give me a morning headache....cured with tea and a biscuit 😁 37 is a pretty good place to be, it's where I'm at 🤗
When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 levels last tested
What vitamin supplements are you taking
Are you still on same dose levothyroxine and T3 as previously
