Hello - I wrote recently after discovering my TSH was 4.23 - at the top end of 'normal'. I had a new set of tests done after 8 weeks and I've just had the Anti-thyroid peroxidase results back and I'm 156 - well over the <34 level, (interestingly my TSH was 3.7 on the later test). I don't get to talk with my doctor till tomorrow evening, but putting it all together (and with the knowledge that I am a Type 1 diabetic), I'm thinking it looks like Hashimoto's.
Your thoughts on this would be appreciated.
I'd also like to ask how high is 156? Sound very high but with only the <34 reference to go on I don't know!

To be honest, it doesn't really matter how high it is, because antibodies fluctuate all the time. Next week, they could be higher, or they could be lower. The important thing is, they are high now, so you have Hashi's.
No - I understood I did. It's just rubbish isn't it? I've lived with diabetes for the whole of my adult life and whilst it's a ridiculous thing to say - I'd kind of hoped that that would be my lot! My reaction is one of huge disappointment that my body has let me down again and I'll be dealing with something new.
They might have been there all the time, just not giving you any trouble, so it might not be something new., not that it'll make you feel any better, but, hey ho. The longer we live the more we accumulate, maybe it's the gift of survival?
No matter what result your TSH is/would be the doctor has to start you on levothyroxine as the BTA state 10 as a starting point for being prescribed but with antibodies, levothyroxine should be prescribed at 50mcg to start.
To clarify - based on those results you you imagine the doctor prescribing straight away? Sorry I must seem totally stupid but this is so new and this forum is a bit of a stress saver!
So I've had an appointment today with the doctor. She said it was not Hashimoto's and they wouldn't be doing anything but monitoring me annually. She isn't my regular doc so I'm going to make another appointment with her on her return from holiday.
I didn't know enough about it to challenge her but didn't feel she was taking it at all seriously. Greygoose - you suggested it was Hashi's.....how would I comprehensively know?
