I know there had been issues with Euthryox, especially when first launched in its new mannitol form.

However, I had not realised until just now that it is being withdrawn in France.

Below is an automatic translation (my French is very poor).

Is anyone able to explain the reasons for its withdrawal?

Support for substitution of levothyroxine therapy

The distribution of Euthyrox will remain available in France until the end of 2023.

In this context, you will find below recommendations for patients and healthcare professionals to accompany patients currently on EUTHYROX to a change of treatment to another levothyroxine-based specialty.

This accompanying language substitution document is a practical fact sheet for patients and healthcare professionals. It includes:

– Recommendations for patients taking EUTHYROX

– Recommendations for healthcare professionals

– List of levothyroxine medicines available in France (March 2023)

– The levothyroxine treatment follow-up book

pdf Distribution stop of EUTHYROX Subscription accompanying document (...) Downloading of the pdf (1.1 MB)

Link is to page in French - I used Firefox translation to get the above English. The PDF is also in French (of course).

Aha! My misunderstanding.

I had not realised the lactose-containing Euthyrox was still available in France. Had thought it had only been for months after 2017.

Merck have changed from lactose almost everywhere in the world now (and they are a mega-supplier).

Looks like they are finally getting rid of lactose version and assuming patients can find another product - as there are more now than there used to be.

I live in France and take Thyrofix by Uni Pharma. My Partner uses Merek Levothyrox.

I don't know about Euthyrox, sorry.

Since taking what? Euthyrox or Levothrox. Did you switch from one to the other?

I have recentky switched to Euthyrox from Levothyroxine. I have gradually got on to half tablet Euthyrox (t4 50: t3 10 with 50 levothroxine added in. I am feeling so much more alert. It's only been 4 weeks but I notice I have much better brain function and my blood pressure has dropped. and lost 3kg ... so not massive weight loss as they talked about in document.

lovelab, 'I have gradually got on to half tablet Euthyrox (t4 50: t3 10 with 50 levothroxine added in. '

Merck Euthyrox doesn't contain any T3, it's T4 / levothyroxine only.

I have been taking Euthyrox for about 4 months since having my thyroid fully removed and feel fine - it is widely available here in the UAE and my Dr (who is from Europe) has not mentioned it will be discontinued.
