T3 mono

Hi, I am currently taking 25 mcg T3 and 25 mcg T4. I want to stop the T4 hormone and continue with only T3. My question is how this should be done. Should I stop both hormones simultaneously and wait a week at least for T4 to clear or do I just stop T4 and continue to increase the dose of T3 until I feel better?

Well you first need to get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing

That’s a low overall replacement dose

How long have you been on this dose

Do you normally split the T3 as 3 doses spread through the day

Day before testing ALWAYS split T3 with last dose 8-12 hours before testing

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Thank you Slowdragon, I appreciate your tips. All the vitamins are made and I think they are good, because every day I take them, only still I put injections of vitamin B12, but I am quite better. I have also made the hormones, and they are:FT3 - 4.4 /3.1-6.8/

FT4 - 7.2/12-22/

TSH - 0.08/0.27-4.2/

These hormones were made when I took T3 - 12.5 mcg and T4-25 mcg on 20/7/23.

Currently I take 25 mcgT3 and 25 mkg T3 since 5 days.

At the moment T3 I divide it into 4 doses.

I took the tests 12 hours after taking T3 and 24 after T4. At the same time, I also took a saliva cortisol test. I haven't had a blood cortisol test this time, because cortisol is always a little high or normal.

Waking-12.5 <20.3

12:00 h -6.06 /1.6-5.6/

16:00 h-5.02 <6.94

Before bed- 1.62 <7.56

It can be seen that in the morning cortisol is a little low and at noon it is a little high.

I want to mention that I was at 75 mcg T4 before adding T3, but the FT3 remained in the lower range for many years. The FT4 was 20, but there was no conversion. I reduced the T4 a lot to make sure it didn't go to the RT3. I don't know how many mcg T3 I need to add more. I would be very grateful if you help me about this and the time of my doses T3, because of my cortisol.

Generally next step would be to have just added T3 alongside levothyroxine ……when adding T3 then Ft4 generally reduces

Preferable to trail levothyroxine plus T3 as first change

Yes, it is, T4 had decreased, but I had read that I should not increase the dose of T4, just add more T3, You mean I'm wrong about it?

Well every person is different

But the majority of people on levothyroxine plus T3 find they need both Ft4 and Ft3 at least 50-70% through range

currently taking 25 mcg T3 and 25 mcg T4.

Worth seeing if you would be better on mainly Levo plus small dose T3

Your Ft4 is currently below range

Suggest you try increasing levothyroxine to 50mcg daily

Retest in 6-8 weeks

Then, depending on results……try further 25mcg increase in levothyroxine to 75mcg per day after that

Only about 10% of people who add T3 then find they need T3 only …….if on T3 only typically dose is likely to be between 40-60mcg per day

Ok, I'll raise the T4 and I hope things work well, but if it does not work well, and I have to stay only on T3, should I stop both hormones or can I gradually decrease T4 and at the same time gradually increase T3? Thank you for your time!
