This may sound crazy but please remember that I am still in withdrawal from diazapam and therefore extremely sensitive to medication, hormones, food etc.I have managed to privately source T3 at 0.5mcg (yes that is correct), and after taking them for two days had a reaction. The Dr says to take them 3 days apart or break the capsule open and take half.
Was wondering if anyone else is in a similar sort of situation.

You need to take the same amount of t3 daily. We need to have all the basics in place sometimes for the body to accept and adapt to something new. If your body is in recovery it is maybe asking too much of it to adapt to getting oral t3 no matter how low the dose. I would either split the capsule and try half daily or stop and try again when you feel ready.
Dr. Ken Blanchard treated patients with similarly low doses of t3. However his t3 was slow release. If you Google Dr Ken Blanchard you can find out enough about his approach on the internet.
If your capsules are slow release, you should never split the dose, as the slow release properties will be lost. Extended or time-release tablets/capsules are designed to enter your system slowly, and cutting them could mean you absorb them too quickly. Extended-release tablets, capsules, and pills with special coatings on the outside usually can't be split or opened. Check with a pharmacist the risks of doing it.
The official standards for levothyroxine (I think this applies in the UK and the USA but would have to look further to double-check) allow up to 1% of T3. That is, a 100 microgram levothyroxine tablets could have up to 1 microgram of T3 in it. (This would not be intentional. Just impurity and/or breakdown products inevitable in the manufacturing systems.)
I think we can assume that the pharmaceutical people think that 1 microgram is ignorable.
I'd be suspicious that whatever is happening is not caused by the T3 (assuming accurately formulated) but the excipients.
For that reason, I would try remove contents from the capsule. (We have had a number of members report issues with a variety of different capsules.) But would probably try without dividing the contents.
Many thanks for your reply. I have contacted the pharmacist to find out what other components might have caused a reaction. I'm awaiting a reply. Hoping that is in fact the case .
Sooty101, I am taking 2.5mcg of T3 which I have had a reaction to every time I attempt to take it. I had no idea it was possible to have an even smaller dose than myself. I was never offered an even smaller dose but hey ho. I too have been very sensitive. My reaction was heart related. You don’t say what your reaction was but if it was heart related we could exchange info. It’s been third time with better success but not without reaction. I feel a bit more confident this time as I made lots of preparations for this attempt.
Thanks for your reply. TBH I can't really describe my reaction, other than it was depression/ anxiety based not nasal allergy type thing. My main reason for sensitivity is coming off benzos. I'm in a wave at the moment so going to wait for my next good period to try again. I have contacted the pharmacy to see what else may be in the capsules, fillerwise. I hope your next attempt is a success.
Thanks Sooty. I have just been reading about Blanchard. I can’t believe I have not heard of this guy’s approach before! Although I may have and forgotten! I am going to study him a bit more. Thanks for raising your query. It seems I have learned something from your experience. Always good to be in touch with the forum.
Just a wee note to add. If you have been on levo for a while you may recall “It gets worse before it gets better”. So far I am now being reminded of that BUT with the T3, those episodes seem to be much shorter and perhaps more powerful and pass more quickly. I was very fearful of my reaction. However this time my reaction was only twenty minutes ish!
Thanks for the thought but I've never taken any thyroid meds before. I'm not on Levo. My reaction was quite extreme so I am fearful of taking T3 again , but I will try to have another go when I'm more balanced.
Ah I should have checked your bio. I have not put anything on my own, so it’s not always my first port of call! It’s such a pity there is no ‘hand holding’ from our medics when first starting thyroid meds. Frankly it would be so helpful and respectful to patients. I totally understand your fear. humanbean has written a fab post on ‘Fear of Thyroid Hormones’ which helped me a lot. I think it might have been a reply to one of my posts or it could have been a piece written directly for the forum, by her. Unfortunately I am hopeless at computer references. I will try to check and find it for you.
I was on them for a few years just taken bits to calm my nerves, as I was menopausal and other stuff was going on. Didn't realize I was hooked until they stopped working. So I then started a very slow taper off. Two years I think, worth it though as coming off was relatively mild compared with some. I'm 6 months clear now but in a wave at the moment. Why do you ask? Have you had experience of them. The problem is I cannot take anything that acts on Gaba receptors, and I believe that includes T3. Paul Robinson writes about this difficulty in one of his books.
