Young boy's blood results help required please

Hi all, I hope you can share light on those blood results of a 12y old boy with symptoms of SOB, sweating, nervousness. He also has got a lot of gray hair suddenly! It's friend's fun who's not doing well recently. Unfortunately he was only given TSH and T4 to test as per usual in this country and tests were done at 2:40pm

His mum is not familiar with thyroid issues so had no idea what to look for and as we know, GPs cannot be trusted with the right tests.

TSH 2.06 (0.35-5.5)

T4 15.1 (10.5-21)

I suggested Medicheck tests which mum will arrange for him after trip abroad.

Medichecks wont test a 12 year old. Blue Horizon is the only company who will test under 18s. Tell mum to go for the Thyroid Premium Gold which tests the full thyroid panel including antibodies plus all key vitamins.

Thank you. I'll pass this. What do you think about the results and symptoms?

Those results don't particularly suggest underactive thyroid, and certainly don't suggest overactive thyroid, but they're not the whole picture, which is why I've suggested the full thyroid/vitamin panel as a starting point. Once we've seen those it might enable us to comment further.

Thank you. I've already told the mum that we can expect only those two years will be five which is always the case. It's beyond me how GPS can ignore those symptoms and funny run a full panel plus other tests for a bit with sudden gray hair and other symptoms. I've given the mum the list of years required and she'll be arranging BH tests . thank you

Thank you. I adjust told the mum to supplement him with B12 for now until they are back from holidays and she can get detailed tests . Thank you for that tip and link 👍

I wouldn't suggest taking B12 or anything at the moment. If he has a B12 problem starting B12 supplements now will skew results and potentially a diagnosis could be missed. Best to leave things as they are.

Definitely do NOT take any supplements that contain any B vitamins especially B12

Get tested first

Hi, I would agree with SlowDragon, could well be a B12 deficiency (or folate/B9 - something affecting the one-carbon or folates cycle) but supplementing either could make diagnosing a difficult to diagnose condition even trickier, so please don't. No Bs at all until serum B12, serum folate, active B12, homocysteine, MMA, anti-Intrinsic Factor antibodies, anti-Gastric Parietal Cell antibodies have been tested if at all possible. There are tests which can rule in a deficiency but *no tests can rule one out* so don't let them convince your friend otherwise. It may be a congenital deficiency or a functional one, or dietary of course. What does he eat? Best wishes.
