Are these results OK?

Hello - My FTH level is 0.73 and free T4 is 11 p/mol. I just wondered if levels such as these could contribute to depression and anxiety or whether I should ask for my thyroxine to be adjusted? Many thanks

Hi, Your FT4 looks low (although without the ranges, i can't be 100%). You may not be absorbing the levothyroxine for some reason. We have some info on this. Send me an email enquiries@thyroiduk.org and I'll send it to you. Some people need the natural thyroxine before they feel completely well.

Barnrobin,

Can I assume that you mistyped TSH as FTH? Or are you writing about a different test?

If you mean TSH = 0.73 and free T4 = 11 - these results seem inconsistent. With a free T4 that low (i.e. round about bottom of range) I would have expected a high TSH (at least 3 and possibly much higher).

So we really need to dig a bit more to come up with some explanation of these results. Did you have any other tests? Have you had an antibody test? Are you on any other medications (or supplements) than thyroxine?

In my view, the low free T4 looks like it could very well be causing or contributing to depression and/or anxiety.

All the best

Rod

Thank you so much for the two answers above. I have sent an email for the info on the possibility of not absorbing thyroixine. The other medication that I take is HRT as I went into an early menopause at 40 three years ago. Do you have any suggestions as to what I should do? I am going back to the GP on Wed. Do you have any suggestions as to what I should say to her? Or what further tests that I should ask for? I already know that my calcium is usually just out of the normal range.

Thank you so much for your help.

Hi. Yes I did mean TSH! Sorry! I used to have Graves disease. I got this when I was only seven and had surgery for it at the age of 14. I am obviously now hypo taking 100 mg of thyroxine each day. I also take HRT treatment for early onset menopause. I am 43 and have been on that for about two years.

Kind regards and thank you so much for answering!

Thanks also lynmynott I have sent an email for the info.
