Mixed thyroid drugs🤷‍♀️

Hi everyone ❤️

As many on here will know I'm lactose intolerant and have colitis, I've been on ROMA for around 21 wks started on 10mg now built up to 25mg (20mg morning, 5mg evening) but I've had to spread this out to 10mg morning, 10 mg afternoon, 5mg evening as the bowle /stomach issues are still affecting me, going back to endo to see what can be done.

So I put my prescription in on Monday this week, the chemist as just delivered it, (very nice of them👍) BUT... the 20s are.. MERCURY PHARMA..the 5s are.. MORNINGSIDE.. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Good god... I'm so sick of my surgery screwing around with my thyroid medication, I don't want to change it again 😠 and I'm unsure if these are lactose free.

Pretty sure I was given morningside before and I had he same reaction with the stomach /bowle, just got off the phone with the pharmacist, I explained the mess to him, he told me no such note is on my records from the gp that I should have lactose free thyroid medication, and no other issues! so we just give you what we could🤦‍♀️.

He did however look back at my thyroid medication and noted "I did indeed have Roma" 🤦‍♀️he as managed to order me some Roma in and hopes they will be in tomorrow, I explained to him my surgery will not honer my prescription if I put it in to early, but that gives the pharmacy time to order the drugs in.. SO I DON'T RUN OUT!! 🤷‍♀️

I went on to also remind him that mixing thyroid medication is not a good idea, it's not recommend

Talk about stressed out🤯... every time I get my thyroid medication it's a flipping fight🥊🥊 so it's back to my doctors to complain yey again 😠😠😠

Yeah really chuffed with myself 💪 but it shouldn't be this way, some gps just need a kick up the butt😂 but I think it's to many gps doing the scripts and not looking into the patients allergies, or lactose/colitis diagnosis so they just sign off on the script, and it's a lottery what you get🤷‍♀️

💯

I’m lucky my pharmacist is an angel 😇 and I have my own top shelf and notes on all their internal systems. I still check what’s in the bag at the counter and they say…that’s the one on the system for you, I laugh ‘trust no one’ everytime 🤣 luckily they are good humoured 🌱

I had long conversation with our GP surgery pharmacist last week

It’s not (currently) possible to specify brand of T3 on prescription ….only can add a request

Yes, he also agreed that was madness

It should however be possible to add note on all further prescriptions

Severe LACTOSE intolerance

Lactose Free liothyronine only

Roma brand only please

Request endocrinologist change prescription from 20mcg capsules for 2 x 10mcg capsules

By careful spacing out of time of doses you should be able to get up to 3 x 10mcg

To my knowledge only Teva and Roma liothyronine are lactose free. Have a look at helvella's thyroid medications guide.

helvella's medicines documents (UK and Rest of the World) can be found here:

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines

helvella has created, and tries to maintain, documents containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world.

This link takes you to a page which has direct links to the documents from Dropbox and Google Drive, and QR codes to make it easy to access from phones.

The UK document contains up-to-date versions of the Summary Matrix for tablets, oral solutions and liothyronine available in the UK.

it’s frustrating as the local pharmacist has started mixing brands of my Levothyroxine. So as I’m on 150mg two days then 175mg third day and so it goes. The 100 are one brand the 25/50mg are another brand when asked the pharmacist why he said “that’s the only ones he can get in each dose.

I tried explaining about mixing brands but it fell on deaf ears and he wasn’t interested or seemed bothered

Yes that's the response I got when I said the same thing to my pharmacist, "it's just what we have in"Honestly us thyroid sufferers are treated like 3rd class citizen's, I'd like them to say to a diabetic "ho sorry but we only had this insulin in you'll need to mix both up"

I have a friend who's a stage one diabetic, and she only has praise for her gp, endo, and pharmacy, in her treatment, the things she tells me about how see can see her gp at anytime, she as regular check ups, medication check ups ect never as any trouble getting her meds.

She can't believe the hassle I have everytime I put my prescription in 😠

It's about time thyroid sufferers were given better treatment, I had full thyroidectomy it was a big operation as I was thyrotoxicosis (on oral iodine for 5 week before op.

After the op i was treated like I'd come in for a bruised toe, had the op Tuesday was out by the Wednesday, my surgeon pushed a bag of medication in my hand said "take as instructed you'll never look back" 🙄

I looked like the bride of frankincense 😂 big white bandage on my neck felt awful, and I had a 1/half hour journey back home, I'm surprised they didn't kick me out the door saying "good riddance don't come back" 😂
