Day 5 of gluten free diet.

I don't know where to go from here I feel so awful.

Taking Levothyroxine 100mg

Lolalottie, Are these your most recent thyroid test numbers?

TSH 0.033 miu. 0.27-4.2

Free T3 5.1 33.1-6.8

Free Thyroxine 21.1. 12- 22

Yes they were taken 30th May.

In which case, I suggest your feeling this bad may be due to being overmedicated. Perhaps try skipping your levo for a day, then dropping back down to 88mcg (i.e. alternate days of 75/100mcg).

Anything is certainly worth a try. Thankyou.

Those numbers and symptoms are similar to my own when I was taking too much levo.Headaches and feeling achey I can relate to. Weakness and aches in the shoulders would be a tell tale sign for me when overmedicated.

Sorry I should add that when I had these similar symptoms my t4 was 21.6 (range 12-22)so similar to your own.I followed advice on here and reduced slowly.Sometimes the symptoms cross over so we may feel like we need an Increase but it's often the very opposite.

Many thanks that is really useful to know. I really hope this is the answer as I just want to feel well again. Do you feel ok now?

I am about 95% there. My GP messed my dosage about for last few years so I read as much as I could and found this great forum which has been a massive help.Patience is the key, you will have to reduce very slowly.I myself have been guilty myself of increasing/decreasing by 25 mcg and it can set you back in the long run.As Red Apple said alternate days of 75/100 for 6-8 weeks is the way to go.Thats just a 12mcg decrease daily.Slow and steady.

Thats brilliant, I shall definitely do that

your ft4 is 91% through the range and your ft3 is only 52%. Have you ever thought about dropping the Levo slightly and adding in some t3 to get that up higher?

Not an awful awful converter but not great either. Did you feel well when your Levo was lower or were you still symptomatic?

Hi, I have been increasing gradually from 50 and have not felt great on any dose. It is certainly something to try if a slight reduction doesn't work. I am trying the alternate between 100 and 75 to see how that goes. I guess I need to give it 8 weeks to see any improvement. I guess if not it would mean seeing a thyroid friendly consultant about the T3. Thanks for your reply x

Hello, I'm really sorry you feel so awful.I'm going from 75 to 100 myself, but only day 6. Terrible day with fatigue and body aches yesterday, thinking I now need to swop to 75 and 100 alternate days.

I haven't read any of your posts except this one, but I'm wondering if your vit and min levels are optimal, as suggested here? Might make a difference?

Mine aren't all great despite trying!

Work in progress.

Wishing you much strength 🌸

Many thanks. Tested vit levels and only really vit D was low so taking that with K2 and just introduced magnesium. Its a game isn't it. I felt awful when going from 75 to 100 right up to week 6 when I felt better and had a few weeks not feeling too bad at all. Then I crashed. I had started vitamins so maybe when I was optimal the dose was too high? No idea! Good luck with your journey, I wish you well! X

Yes absolutely a game. The slow response time I'm starting to think is what stuffs many of us! As you point out:

I had started vitamins so maybe when I was optimal the dose was too high?

I guess it's possible. As in, by the time substance B is where it should be for your body, substance A has gone over the hill - and that's assuming everything in your life is fine nothing has changed, inc your diet, your female hormones (notoriously dodgy), things you don't know about such as genetic factors and biochemical processes impacting on the thyroid but which have cycles of their own which may or may not coincide positively. Errgh.

So I guess the slow but steady is definitely our best chance. I've started keeping a daily symptom log as suggested by jade_s and including things like when I started supplements, how much, changes in hrt dose, anything really which might impact. I'm not the best log keeper but I've decided I have to try.

Did oyu find a good magnesium? I know bisglycinate is often recommended for being gentle on stomachs.

I also, started a journal yesterday. To log how I'm feeling, what I'm taking etc. Have also changed diet and am going gluten free but its early days. The magnesium I am using up at the moment does upset my stomach so will try the one you have suggested. Have also started taking a biomil, as suggested on here, everyday for my stomach, but thats new as well. Lets hope something works! X

I bought this:

amazon.co.uk/Improved-Magne...

for what it's worth, there are loads though. As long as good dose of elemental magnesium as suggested here (not total magnesium).

The journal sounds good, and gluten free definitely. I'm not even that reactive to gluten but I notice the difference , less drowsy and fatigued in the afternoon. Don't want it now, don't like how it makes me feel - never thought I'd say that. What's a biomil?

Lolalottie profile image
Lolalottie in reply to Sneedle

Yes, I have already ordered one but not the same one. Sorry mispelt it, its Biomel love your gut which contains live cultures. X
