New to site which is a light in the dark believe me !Near total thyroidectomy forty years ago unmedicated.
Symptoms of hypothyroidism unrecognised since by numerous GP.S ,,normal range,,
Became really debilitating around fifteen years ago. Swelling weight gain and most other symptoms! Change of life and stress. Became unrecognizable as the same woman....other people's opinion of my body changes .Digestive problems huge and ongoing.Mobility problems core muscles rigid and stretched. Thyroid ultrasound recently on my insistence showed the small piece of thyroid left enlarged with nodules.
Recent private tests show low tsh, lower in range free T4 and lower in range freeT3 and high over range anti thyroid peroxidase, anti immunoglobulin 15. Four months to see a thyroid dept, years of no one knowing at dr s how I am so ill and getting worse. Input welcome!

Do you test thyroid early morning, around 9am and only drink water between waking and test
ESSENTIAL to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 too
Request GP do so
Plus high thyroid antibodies confirms autoimmune thyroid disease, so GP should do coeliac blood test (assuming you are not already on gluten free diet)
You really don’t want to take anything that contains kelp or iodine. This can badly affect thyroid
Suggest you stop
Get hold of GP results for vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.
The best way to get access to current and historic blood test results is to register for online access to your medical record and blood test results
UK GP practices are supposed to offer everyone online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.
Thanks for all this wise information and advice . My goodness I'm making you work hard on this. I'll take your advice about the supplement and pull all the info together. Four months to an his endo appointment. I've been looking at the private lists for Edinburgh. Thank you I have more info than ever before about this condition! Which members of my family also have as you can imagine!
Thanks for all of that it really hass helped to access informed people in this process. I just realised I had left out my gp parathyroid test of 3.18. I was told forty years ago that the surgeon had barely managed to save a sixth of the gland. When I read the hypothyroidism list lots of things Drs were confused by over the years made more sense!
