A Method To Increase Ferritin Level

Hi, just sharing this info if it's any help for anyone. I've always struggled to increase my ferritin levels over the years. It tends to stay down at 20-40 ug/L. Supplementing iron and eating iron rich foods will elevate it a bit more for me but what has worked the best is iron as a transdermal patch. These can easily be bought on Amazon. I used one that has a combo of 50mg of iron and 90mg of vitamin C per patch and wore one every night for a minimum of 8 hours and repeated this for 2 months.

My last ferritin result was 30 ug/L in April 2023. After the 2 months of using the patches and my reading is now 101 ug/L! I can feel the difference for the better too in how I feel. I used to get such an incredible zombie tiredness, with heavy head, this has now lifted with increasing my iron to a ferritin level of this :-) Hope I can maintain it now.

PS to enhance absorption of the patches, my theory is to stick it over the inside of the wrists where it's thin skin and blood vessels are close to the surface. I alternative wrists each night. I put a patch on at night, so it doesn't get rubbed off with clothes and movement in the daytime.

Interesting thanks for sharing 🤗love a bit of transdermal!

Bit less keen on the sticky having done a stint on HRT patches 🙃 but these could be a great option for vegans, like the inclusion of Vit C and I see one version has Zinc... luckily 3 Arrows has work well for me

Similar cost

brilliant! I like the patch idea good for you. I’ll look into that, especially good for those with sensitive tums. (Tagging Imaaan you might like this) idea if you haven’t come across it already) 🤗

I’ve been on project ferritin too. It’s such a boost when levels are higher. 🌱

thanks so much this is ideal, I have fibroids which cause heavy bleeding and I’m thinking I could wear one during a period and just after as well as the dietary intake of kale and liver etc. 👏

Afraid not! 🍄 found a paper that says us athletes need pills not patches for iron 🙄😏

Transdermal Zinc could be a go'er though

Transdermal mineral patches are a con. The supplier is so confident that they trail off with These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Over on the Pernicious Anaemia Society forum, B12 patches have been discussed several times. The general view seems to be not very favourable.

The large B12 molecule cannot readily pass through the skin.

However, do have a look yourself as I might have missed something.

And thanks for mentioning the iron patches.

Any knowledge of transdermal zinc? Hard to find as it is used topically anyway...

helvella profile image

A zinc cream used to be used for Athlete's foot!

Zincus undecanoate.

Any help or use? Almost certainly not.

Thanks, intrigued to know what it showed as it was just a link to Amazon??

The entire range of MHRA licensed zinc medicines is here:

products.mhra.gov.uk/search...

Many irrelevant. Maybe play with the search?

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministratorThyroid UK in reply to TiggerMe

This is the sort of link you posted (with added spaces so it does not turn blue):

https: // amazon. co. uk/ gp/ product/B0C93VHXTY?ref=ppx_pwq3_qa_b_prod_image&th=1

What appears after the question mark in some way identifies further how the link was found. Not having in depth knowledge of Amazon's techniques, this could identify a website where you found the link, or you/your account as an Amazon customer, an actual Amazon order made by you, or anything else.

For a large proportion of this type of link, across Amazon and many other companies, everything from the question mark onwards (including the question mark) is unnecessary for simply identifying a product. The B0C93VHXTY coding is what actually identifies the product.

For privacy and security, you could take the link you are going to post, and keep chopping bits off. When you have gone too far it will stop working. :-)

Lack of accurate information, especially on Amazon, is a major issue.

I must have put in hundreds of complaints.

The simple fact that you have to look at an image, rather than text, makes screen readers less than useful. (I know OCR is available of many but even when it works, it is a whole extra layer to navigate.

Then, as in this case, that it doesn't list the detail.

(I like that they post an image - it allows you to check that the text and image say the same thing. But not only an image.)

Take out from the second link.... "Therefore, this study concluded that PILL effectively increased sFer in athletes with suboptimal iron stores, whereas PATCH showed no beneficial effects."

So maybe works better in rats than humans?

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministratorThyroid UK in reply to TiggerMe

Which form of iron did the patch contain in that paper?

Experimental Procedures

Iron supplementation. During the intervention period, PILL

participants supplemented with one Ferro Grad C tablet (Mylan

Health Pty Ltd., Millers Point, NSW, Australia) upon waking daily

(DAY). Each tablet contained 325 mg of ferrous sulfate and 500 mg

of ascorbic acid, equating to a dose of 105 mg of elemental iron.

The PATCH group supplemented with one Iron Plus supplement

patch (PatchMD) for 8 hr every night of the intervention. Each

patch contains 45 mg of iron in the form of iron bisglycinate. 😅

Just wondered whats the name of the iron patches?

Juliet_22 profile image
Juliet_22

That's amazing, thank you SO much for sharing this, just what I needed to read. So you only used the patches without taking any iron orally and that alone raised your levels?

HEA72 profile image
HEA72 in reply to Juliet_22

I'd eaten black pudding 1-2x p/week, cooking in an iron wok 1x p/week but that alone wasn't doing enough, so I included the iron patches and yes, these were what elevated my ferritin sufficiently.
