cellulite in legs related to thyroid?

I have been exercising the same as always and eating clean, but have recently suffered from a cellulite appearance in my legs (when pressing on the skin or walking you can see it only). I am wondering if it is in fact celulite or water refention, and whether it is related to my Hashimoto’s disease.

I have never had such a bad appearance in my legs. Although I have, as many women do, suffered from a little bit of cellulite on the saddlebag area when sitting, but this is improved with regular exercising. However, over the past 8 months or so, I have experienced it worse than ever and in my front and back thighs. This is despite exercising as much as I was when in my best shape and eating just as clean. I am starting to worry that this is actually related to my Hashis or a sign from my body that not all is well (I recently also suffered from thyroid eye disease appearing in my left eye which has improved over the past few weeks)

Has anyone else suffered from this sudden change? What did it mean for you?

it could be mucin which is the myxodema swelling that is common in hypothyroidism. I have/had it. Starts to go away with more optimal vitamins and thyroid hormone levels. Mine was top of arms, legs, around eyes, just under boobs. It’s a kinda watery jelly type substance. Makes it so you can’t pinch the skin. I’m convinced it was also sore/painful to the touch, massage was excruciating. Since it’s receded my chronic ankle soreness has vanished, physio at podiatry clinic says she thinks the swelling was pressing on tendons 🌱

Same here - for me it was in my arms, under my chin, above my eyes/under my eyebrows, and in the 'bra bulge' area of my upper back. I believe it was because I was left very poorly treated for a few years following TT (my TSH rose as high as 30 at one point).

It's improved a lot since starting Armour, and even more so since reducing my Armour and introducing T3 alongside. I started documenting the appearance changes once I realised something wasn't right. I'm glad I did, as it'd helped me to keep faith that I am slowly getting better, and it hasn't all been in my head.

Sorry to hear that, it sounds horrid. On Levothyroxine I put on stones of weight and felt like I was locked in a fat suit, it felt awful. It all disappeared on NDT and I felt loads better all round. The cellulite is appearing now but it’s not serious or painful.

Or could it be lipedema? There is an estimated 39% hypothyroid comorbidity.

So that’s why I’ve got bat wings and dimple thighs 🤣🤣🤣 there’s no end to the havoc thyroid disorder wreaks on our bodies. Even NDT has failed to stop the lumpy, scraggly decline.

advised to up my water intake re fragile kidney problem resulted in cellulite disappearing. But it took up to 2 litres of water a day. Our bodies are intricate, links that we assume docs know all about but fail to mention.
