FA private doctor I saw said I could take the selenium at the same time as my levo and it wouldn't affect absorption of the levo but enhance it. He put it in a supplement dosing chart for me.

But I never have taken it at the same time, save a few occasions when I'm rushed or forgotten to take it or something. I haven't noticed a difference either way though.

I'm afraid I haven't answered your question. According to that private doctor, it's fine.

I don't know if he was right🤷🏿‍♀️

Ahh I misunderstood your question! It's always been recommended to me to supplement for the anti-inflammatory properties of it - not that I can say I see a real effect in that at all. And because it supposedly boosts conversion of thyroid hormone. A lot of people believe we don't get adequate amounts compared to the past and I'm always suspicious of the set ranges for vitamins but that's me.

But yes, test your levels first if you're concerned.

Selenium is a great antioxidant, rather than specifically anti-inflammatory (although I daresay less oxidative stress = less inflammation?).

The deiodinase enzymes are selenium and iodine dependent

I think Jim111 is the deiodinase expert (but I may have got his user name wrong because it doesn't show up in the @ alert.)

Seleno-enzymes and seleno-compounds: the two faces of selenium:

Globally our soil quality has been destroyed by the likes of Monsanto et al - trace mineral content severely depleted etc.

Many of us take selenium but it might be a good idea to test first to see whether your level gives you leeway to take it. Mine is pretty good without supplementing so I'd have to be careful with any dose size if I wanted to supplement.

Some say it's fine to take 100mcg without testing.

If you do supplement then obviously, like all supplements and other medication, it should be at least 2 hours away from your Levo.

Best forms are selenium L-selenomethionine or a yeast bound selenium. Avoid selenite or selenate forms.

I'm pretty sure that should say "without testing". ;)

😂 Yes, you're right HB. Yesterday was pretty fraught, hopefully that was the only mistake! I'll edit it now, thank you.
