spine pain

Hi,

Does anyone else struggle with a pain in there lower Spine and it gets worse when standing and walking?

Im starting to think it could be muscle fatigue, which is then putting pressure on my spine.

Would love to hear some positive stories of people who have struggled with this and recovered? I am hoping when I get to add T3 it resolves this symptom as its debilitating.

Thank you

I had really bad coccyx pain since the birth of my first child, that was 2 years before I believed my symptoms really kicked in and I had another 2 pregnancies after that. It was on and off for the 4 years before I started treatment but was getting progressively worse - I started Levo and it slightly improved when I felt a little better but always went back to being terrible. Once I added in T3 I haven’t had it since; it’s shocking to me how badly I suffered with it for so long and how it’s completely disappeared! Fingers crossed yours magically disappears too!

Hi Denny39,

I've had back problem which after doctor and physio assessment and a clear MRI, seems to be from years of lying down due to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

It got so bad my back was spasming if I so much as jumped, if someone startled me.

A physio I found has been helping me figure out which muscles are weak and which are too tight etc. I have exercises to do with a resistance band, and basically I need to teach myself a whole new posture as mine has become terrible (curved lower spine made much worse by unsupportive weak muscles and overly tight ones pulling me out of shape). And two pregnancies when I was humoungous didn't help.

It slow but it's working.

Not sure if that helps, but I definitely recognise the pain on standing and walking.

I'm on Levo not T3 and undermedicated so trying to sort that out.

It may be you can help yourself with some gentle exercises (under physio guidance) and hopefully t3 will help.

Or I may be barking up the wrong tree completely in which case I do apologise!

I hope you get some relief.

A really good chiropractor would possible sort it out. In B/M there is the school of chiropractors they would do an ultrasound and examination maybe for free. It is on the South Coast.

If not it could be low FT3 causing the same type of pain it's the brain just trying to sort out.

Not personally but as a Yoga Teacher (no longer teaching so this is not seeking business) for decades I noticed that almost all back problems resolved with Yoga, if the practitioner attended regularly. Only three of all the hundreds of students I had didn't experience significant improvement or complete recovery. Two of those were found to need surgery and one doesn't believe in doctors etc so no exploration. So, I would highly recommend finding a good Yoga teacher and if your back isn't much better after two terms having further investigations. Please feel free to ignore this since you didn't ask for advice!

This is a big thing for me. Mainly it’s due to lack of thyroid hormones IMHO. Some muscles virtually collapse (not helped by so much time spent lying down through fatigue) and others take over jobs they were never designed for e.g. pirifirmis muscle is a little muscle which takes over from useless gluteus muscles (often critical in lower back pain). It’s a common issue. Loads on the internet about it but no mention of hypothyroidism. Duh! So sometimes muscles are spasming and other times it’s that the muscles are lax, ever changing. Even when I feel relatively good, my muscles, proximal muscles but lower back concentration scream from overuse just folding laundry. What I have read though is that it does not matter how out of kilter the hormones are, or not, it has no connection with the amount of pain experienced - I think of it as my particular brand or picture of hypothyroidism. I had a very short time on T3 which improved it enormously, even felt better for weeks afterwards. Looking forward to getting back on it! Recently I saw some info on T3 and it’s affinity for muscle issues, heart etc. The Canadian website I think. Muscles, especially thigh muscles are huge, never mind heart etc. It seems to me it’s a no brainer, T3 is a necessity for proper working muscles. If you can’t convert T4 to T3, you are going to have a lot of muscle problems.

I hate to disagree with Brightness14 but if the muscles are too badly affected, chiropractic help is limited because we need our muscles to hold on to the changes which are made by said treatment and our muscles can no longer do that. I have had treatment in the past which was very successful (migraines) but my muscles are too far gone at the moment. I do use a wonderful sports therapist (frozen shoulder) but I have had to stop that for a bit too as it was all just too painful and resulting in overwhelming exhaustion but I hope to get back to that too. It’s a difficult issue to weigh up, this getting worse before it gets better stuff. Loins need to be girded!

I now think ‘tone’ of muscles is what is at stake here. This has a myriad symptoms of all sorts from tinnitus and sleep apnoea (probably does not help our constipation either) to completely being unable to support our bodies, which I have experienced over medicating with levo.
