Metavive III and IV bovine trial.

Hello to you all.

After being on Thyroids S for years with some interruption because of shortage.I tried Metavive I and II good level of hormone in the blood there but thyroid inflammation probably because of the added nucleotides then a try Forefront my for ever supressed THS climb to 27 after 5 weeks and a very low level of hormone.

I felt a bit high on Thyroid S even when tweaking on the dosage usually taking 2.75 Thyroid S a day.

I decided to try Metavive bovine because the amount of nucleotides is really low respective to the content in porcine Metavive III has 32mg of dry gland with 8 mg of nucleotides added so sold as 40mg

Metavive IV has 65mg of dry gland and 15mg nucleotides added sold as 80mg.

So for 5 weeks I have taken one Metavive IV plus one metavive III in the morning and one Metavive III in the evening.

My test came back as:

THS: 0.01 (range 0.27-4.2 mU/L)

TF4: 18.1 (range 12-22 pmol/L)

FT3: 3.6 (range 3.1-6.8 pmol/L)

TP0 antibodies: 126IU/mL should be < to 35. too high but I have Hashimoto.

Yes I stopped biotin and my vitamin D level are good also take selenium 200 micrograms most of the time.

I also tested exactly 12 hours after my last dose of metavive.

I recently tested for the DIO2 rs225014 and i have got a CC so i have the double variant making me unlikely to convert T4 into T3 properly which I kind of expected after my very poor experience with levothyroxine. I have been on thyroid S (self medicating) for 10 years now.

Anyway my question is should i persevere with Bovine metavive and add 1 Metavive III which would go as 1 met IV plus one Met III in the morning and 1 Met IV in he evening and test again in 5 weeks to see if my FT3 are coming higher or should i go back to thyroid S as my FT4 were around 17.1 (same range) and my FT3 were at 7 (same range) slightly too high and feeling a bit shaky at time, any experience with bovine glandular welcome.

Thank you.

😊

Hi, I'm sorry you are trying to get to the bottom of your thyroid too. Interesting for me to read about your experience on metavive Porcine, with the added nucleotides!

I used to be on metavive porcine, and it worked great. However, as I experienced heart fluctuations(for different reasons) I came off these so my GP could monitor me. I then switched to conventional medicine, which didn't work so returned to metavive after 2 years. This time metavive porcine didn't work! I was advised the only new ingredient was nucleotides and should have no affect on me at all. However, you felt it caused inflammation so changed to metavive bovine!! Very interesting!!

I am experimenting myself just now. I wish you all the best. This sure is a journey eh!

Hi Angie

The problem with nucleotides is it depends on the dose there are 50 mg in 1 capsule of Metavive II so if you take 3 to 5 capsules it is all adding up there is only15 mg in the Metavive IV so hopefully even by taking 3 capsules let say it is less than in 1 capsule of metavive II. When I tried Metavive porcine my test were good but i got thyroiditis with violent headaches and thought it was triggering an anti=bodies attack as nucleotides seems to enhanced the immune system.

I wish we had more option with main stream medication. 😊

Raising your dose by Met lll x 1 would likely have raised your FT4 and FT3 but the disparity between them might’ve increased if you’re correct in your assertion that you possibly have a conversion problem

I realise this is an old post but your experience may help inform other Metavive users, such as me

Thanks

I hadn't realised quite how much higher the T3 ratio is in porcine as opposed to bovine so it would seem counter productive to switch to bovine when trying to raise fT3?

I'm only just learning about NDT

Adding more bovine will raise FT3 but it will also likely raise FT4, though not necessarily because as we all know, taking T3 will lower TSH and a natural decline in FT4 could follow. She’ll have to try, watch and wait

Just noticed this is a year old post. Will drop her a line to see how she got on. It’s always interesting comparing notes

Hi

How did you get on with tweaking Metavive

Hi about the follow up.

I decided at the end to take 1 thyroid S in the morning with 1 Metavive 3 and 1 Metavive 4 in the evening. I have done this for over 10 months now and feel great. My test results 2,5 months after the tweak through my NHS GP (I have not tested since) was this:

THS: 0.01 (0.35-4.94)

T3: 4.3 (2.4-6)

T4: 13.4 (9-19.1)

I will test before winter as I have lost weight this summer which I needed to do. I also started doing yoga at home again.

Ideally I wish i could use only product from the uk and thought to take 1 metavive 2 plus 1 metavive 3 morning plus 1 metavive 4 in the evening, however I am worried about the reaction taking more nucleotides by adding the porcine metavive. Beside I still have plenty Thyroid S so probably will stick with my regimen for another 10 months then will see.

Hope this will help others. 😊

Numbers are lower than I would like for me but you’re feeling great, so happy days

In the future should you decide that the one product you want to take is Metavive then it’s perfectly possible to get good levels on bovine only. I take

Met IV (bovine) x 2

Met l (porcine) x 1 in the morning

Met lll (bovine) x 1 at bedtime

I attain excellent FT4 and FT3 in that dose

Good luck

I can’t comment on the bovine Metavive but, if you were feeling well on Thyroid S, why not go back on that but lower your dose slightly so that your FT3 doesn’t go above the reference range. It’s just such a trial trying to find the best solution.

Thank you for your reply. I have heard that for many Bovine thyroid is better respective to sleep and spike of hyperactivity. even when my levels are good with Thyroid S i find that i suffer from insomnia, which seems better when taking bovine. I know on my results T3 are low (still in range) but this is 12 hours after taking 1/4 of my dose as I take 3/4 in the morning. I also wanted to find an alternative source in the UK.

I cannot increase my dose as my T4 would be over range but i could try 1/2 dose in the morning and 1/2 dose in the evening to balance it out. I could also mix Thyroid S and Metavive Bovine. just looking for answers to help with sleep and a slight elevated heart rate at rest when on Thyroid S which I think is caused by T3.

😊

Hi Starsw, sorry this is an old post. I'm just where you got the data /breakdown in metavive (ratio of glandular to nucleotides) .. I am using metavive II but I am thinking of switching to metavive bovine III. I cannot find the breakdown you give in your post anywhere. I hope you are finding a way through this.

Sorry I thought I had replied to you but somehow it didn't post, my breakdown come from the dosage of the old metavive before they added the nucleotides, so the old metavive 3 was 32mg, the old metavive 4 was 65mg when they changed it they said the weight of dried gland remained the same and the difference in weight was made up by the added nucleotides. so now metavive 3 is 40 mg which stands for 32mg gland plus 8 mg nucleotides for metavive 4 the dried gland would be 65mg plus 15mg nucleotides they were saying to their customers to take the same Metavive like if you take 1 metavive 4 (65mg before change) and one metavive 3 (32mg before change) to keep taking the same without taking into account the new weight stated as 80mg or 40 mg as the difference of weight was because of the added ingredients.

hope i made it clear to you. Sorry for the late replied.
