Nail stain

Hi,

I’m here again but now asking for any experience with nail stain, a dark one ( Melanonychia ) related with Thyroid issues.

I got it in one of my nail and waiting for a NHS specialist doctor appointment now.

I know this can be a big problem, but looking on internet some of melanonychia can be related with thyroid problems (graves).

My symptoms was always about hypothyroidism and I know graves is about hyperthyroidism.

Sorry, I am very worried and feel lost with that.

Thank you all. x

I’m really sorry that no one has come along to answer your question spphilos. I can understand why you are feeling so lost and worried.

Hopefully someone will come along soon with experience in this condition - I had Graves but nothing like that.

If you don’t get a response soon then make a new post and try again.

I had something similar as part of adrenal insufficiency - brown line down nails, not diffuse, but i also had hyperpigmentation in other areas including knuckles, elbows, unexposed areas, wounds turning brown after healing, as well as an overall 'tan' that i hadn't realized i had. jaad.org/article/S0190-9622....

I hope you don't have Addison's (autoimmune adrenal insufficiency) but perhaps worth exploring. Signs & symptoms include high potassium levels, nausea/vomiting, weakness and others, see for example my.clevelandclinic.org/heal...

Best wishes.

Apparently low protein in diet, low vit D, and low B12 can also cause this. As well as the usual suspects like a fungal infection and so on webmd.com/skin-problems-and...

For anything skin-related the Dermnetnz website is well worth investigating.

I found this link :

dermnetnz.org/topics/melano...

which suggests your problem could be very serious so I hope you have been referred to someone suitable as an urgent case.

There is quite a long list of possible alternative diagnoses listed on that link.
