I need to cut my sugar intake, specifically in my coffee and tea. I read somewhere about how artificial sweeteners are not good if you have an underactive thyroid. Is this true?
thanks in advance

I did make a post about artificial sweeteners very recently:
Replacing sugar with sweeteners does not affect weight control in long term, WHO says

Some of the discussion is interesting.
As I grew up, I used to take a lot of sugar in tea and coffee. For some reason, I decided to cut back and found it quite easy to get to one teaspoonful, then (more slowly) a half. And stuck round about there for many years.
Eventually, that had reduced to a quarter, and I asked myself why I bothered at all. So I stopped. (I also stopped taking milk in tea. But that wasn't actually related.)
If you put any sugar in now, I'd throw it away!
Changing the coffee and tea you drink can help. I now almost always drink a nice Ceylon/Sri Lanka tea. (When I'm out and about, I take whatever is going.)
Points:
You can start by cutting down.
You can make it easier by choosing coffee and tea that is more pleasant with less or no sugar.
This is not meant to tell you what to do, just to make a couple of suggestions as to what you could do. And encourage a first step - often the most difficult whichever route you choose.
Another option is to switch to oak milk
Naturally sweeter than milk and very good in coffee
More of an acquired taste in tea
