Thyroid S Batch Number:TA21089

I started the above in the summer last year after TR Mann stopped supplying. Since then I have struggled. Previously I took x 2 TR Mann, I have taken just 1 of Thyroid S daily, for a short while it seemed ok'ish, but now I have a lot of symptoms. I started yesterday splitting the dose, and took 3 x 1/2 during the day, bit early to see if it is going to make any difference

icy cold

fatigue

poor sleep

black rings under eyes

looking old and haggard

apathetic

Worst of all my hearing/tinnitus has got much much worse, and I need to wear 2 hearing aids.

Anybody else out there struggling with this medication?

Margo, It sounds as if you are very under medicated. Have you done a thyroid blood test to see what your levels are? If yes, do post the details. If not, suggest you do one asap to help you to see what's going on.

Thank you, as soon as I sent the blog, I realised that yes it does sound as though I am under medicated. Will ask my surgery for a blood test form. I always get in a muddle with the tests, how long should I leave off medication before the test? (I should know this by now)

Most NHS thyroid tests do not include FT3, which is essential if you're taking desiccated thyroid. Do consider doing your own private blood test if you possibly can.

Best to leave 12 hours from your last dose, and do the test early in the morning (8-9am if possible).

After reading this summary, I am seriously considering giving VitaliThy a try instead. It seems to be the only OTC prescription-strength NDT left after Thiroyd and TR Tman were discontinued in 2019. I am slightly worried about the manufacturer of VitaliThy as this company was founded in 2019, most likely to fill the void left by two discontinued Thai brands. Nothing wrong with that, but their first product (Real Thyroid) seems to be a disaster. I have not found a single positive review. Not sure it´s even available anymore. It´s been described as "absolutely horrible" and "a total waste of money". And it seems they put fillers in their products to be able to sell them as supplements in Vietnam, even if some fillers can have adverse effects on people with hypothyriodism, such as iodine (Real Thyroid) and ashwagandha (VitaliThy). I cannot where remember where I read about possible problems with ashwagandha in hypothyroidism, but it seems to be a nightshade plant...also, it´s known to lower cortisol level, and not all hypothyroid people need that. But the only other options if levo alone does not work optimally for you would be glandulars or synthetic T3 added to levo. I know that Dr. Peatfield recommended Nutri Thyroid (discontinued) to hypothyroid patients, and many did great on it, but not sure how you get along with glandulars long-term as they do not have a known hormone content. Also, very few glandulars seem to be porcine, most are bovine.

My thyroid was removed in 2015 until then it was working perfectly. I had never had any thyroid problems prior, it was a total shock. I was then put on 100mcg of Levo and after 6/7 months felt ill. I then joined this site and put myself onto Thyroid s. My FT3 level was always above 6 which is good and I felt really well. Back last year I started on batches from 2022 after 44 days on the same dosage 1.25 6am and 1 at 1.30pm I stated falling down not realising that the Thyroid s had changed. My FT3 was now only 2.76. This was back in September 2022 and since then I have been trying to sort it out. I have done my own chart with less 10% more etc.etc. to try and find my perfect dosage again. I am now on 1.5 grains and feeling bad. You are only on 1 grain and require a blood test FT3 especially with no thyroid. I do know that just a quarter makes a huge difference.

Gosh Margo, I think TR Man and Thyroid-S were equivalent strengths so I imagine getting back to 2 tablets a day would help you, I hope so anyway!

I've been compiling lists of comments on the various batches of Thyroid-S from several different groups and a WhatsApp group, and also their percentages from the manufacturer, and so far no-one has complained about 21089, it seems a really popular one. It's the one I'm taking and love it. I also know from experience that sometimes I need to increase or decrease my dose by 1/4 tablet daily depending on the batch (I take 3.25 tablets at the moment).

Twice I've been persuaded by doctors to reduce my dose, to prove I don't need thyroid hormones at all, and the symptoms I got after just a few months of going from 3.25 to 2.5, were similar to yours, plus I had a lot of problems with my eyes including vitreous detachments. I really hope that by increasing the dose you soon feel much better.
