Hi, I am just following up re goitre and results which I posted last month.

I have been to the Drs , had the blood tests at surgery and a scan for thyroid. I am told that the TSH etc are all within normal range - I have lots of nodules on my thyroid but all benign.

The Dr has told me they do not give any medication. It is beyond her remit as the blood results are normal. She also said they do not recognise the CPR as being high - and the high antibodies could possibly mean I was on my way to hashimoto' but does not mean I have it... She said the antibodies could mean I have another issue ... but no answers as to what that may be.

The only answer she had was to recommend I have an appointment with the surgeon to discuss removing the thyroid.

So I have told her I that I will go my own way and carry on with the gluten free, dairy etc - and will re do my private blood tests in 6 months.

I feel fine - but obviously there are issues here.

One thing I have not tested for is iodine deficiency. I keep reading that in the west it is very rare for that to be an issue for goitre and if you have hashimoto's , taking it could be dangerous? Is this true? They do not test on the NHS so would need do it it myself.

This is the way that doctors are taught, not least because the reference range for TSH is too wide but also their knowledge is lacking. I've not met anyone yet with antibodies that hasn't at least got early stage of Hashimoto's.

►What was your last TSH? You need 2 results above reference range to get a diagnosis.

►Did you do the test as per the protocol recommended here? Test at 9am, fasting, last levo dose 24hrs before the blood draw & no biotin containing supplements for 3-7 days?

►Did your scan show anything other than nodules?

Iodine is not recommended in Hashimoto's or hypothyrodism. It is used as an anti thyroid medication. If you have antibodies you have different issues to iodine deficiency. Yours is autoimmune.

►When hypo we get low stomach acid which means we cannot absorb vitamins well from our food, regardless of a great diet. For thyroid hormone to work well we need OPTIMAL levels of vitamins. Have you recently or could you ask your GP to test levels of ferritin, folate, B12 & D3? Private tests are available, see link for companies offering private blood tests & discount codes, some offer a blood draw service at an extra cost. thyroiduk.org/help-and-supp...
