Help with hypothyroidism & oestrogen

Good evening

I was wondering if anybody has had the same experience as myself and how it was resolved.

I was first given oestrogel for my peri menopausal symptoms and felt very unwell on it along with the headaches and crippling anxiety and vertigo I feel as if I'm over medicated on my levothyroxine which I've experienced in the past when a dr tried to raise me to quickly 5 years ago

I questioned if I was having to much Oestrogen to which the nurse replied no I don't think your taking enough upped me to 3 pumps a day at first I felt calm and then it all started again.

I've since been transferred to the Evorel 75mcg patch the first 10 days I felt amazing and was running around like wonder women but very hyper active felt almost excited butterflies in my tummy happy then the 10th day very tired the next day quite poorly and very teary the same the next day on the 4th day I just took the patch of as I was aware my heart beat more than I usually do and I did gradually start to slightly improve as the day went on

I cut a patch in half the next day but it just wasn't enough come the 6th day and had to put the other half on. I'm due to change it again tomorrow and feel again feel as if I'm over medicated with levo my heart is fluttering I've again have a twitchy eye lid my eyes are sore and dry brain fog is awful with forgetfulness and vertigo my hair is still falling out and has become very thin I'm extremely tired but wired and cold with facial hot flushes and muscle and joint pain.

Not saying I'm right just how it appears but to me it seems the oestrogen is making me feel overactive with still menopause symptoms or I'm on to much oestrogen. I've voiced how I'm feeling but all the dr did was place me vertigo medication which some days work and some days doesn't

I've listed my thyroid results in my bio I can't get vitamins etc tested for hair loss as they keep putting down to peri-menopause and I need to be patient for the hrt to kick in I'm phoning back tomorrow and would appreciate any help in what I need to ask for thank you for reading.

I also forgot to add my head clears once I've eaten but it has to be some kind of protein (chicken for breakfast) I'm able to start my day I tired two hard boiled eggs and a protein yogurt but because of my Crohn's anything with powdered protein makes me feel very ill so I have to stick with some kind of lean meat for clarity.

Welcome to the group.

TSH 2.96mu/l (0.27-4.2mu/l)

Thyroxine 18.3 pmol/L

FT4 levels (normal range 12 - 22 pmol/L)

TRIODOTHYRONINE is 3.9 pmol/L

FT3 levels normal (normal range 3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L)

What time of day was this test taken? We recommend 9am or as close as possible as this is when TSH is highest. No levo for 24hrs before test and to stop any biotin containing supplements 3-7 days before blood draw.

So to start with your TSH is far too high. To feel well most people need a TSH of 1 or just under.

HRT increases the need for thyroid hormone so likely it is sending you further hypo when you take it. Being under replaced can feel very similar to what you might think over replaced is!

Your FT3 is also very low which can cause anxiety.

Hair loss is frequently low ferritin which is common if hypo and under replaced. Recommend asking for tests for ferritin, folate, B12 & D3.

thank you for your quick reply it was done before 9am and fasting with no Levothyroxine taken before I do not take any biotin

Usually when I need more Levothyroxine or I’m anemic I cannot stay awake I’m usually so fatigued and slow

But I will ask for the blood test you have suggested and fingers crossed will give me some answers thank you again

Hi l started hrt while on levothyroxine and it totally messed me up. Three weeks after l started the 2 pumps gel and progesterone tablet l was lying on the bathroom floor weak shaking a mess. I stopped taking it immediately and it has taken ages to get my levothyroxine right and me feeling better. Now on 75/50 levothyroxine. I think as they are all hormone related they effect each other. I feel much better now. It says on the small print medicine leaflet they effect each other. Good luck getting it right for you. We are all different hormones are powerful and so important

Thank you Poppycat I will look into it that's very helpful I haven't read a leaflet inside a box of levothyroxine in nearly 8-9 years
