Hi, can anyone help me understand my recent bloods? I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in September last year and have only had one appointment (over the phone ) with a consultant so struggle understand it all. I am on carbimazole was 30mg now 10.

How long had you been on 10mg dose when bloods taken? or is adjustment recent,

Have you had any other tests? Did you ever obtain a copy of thyroid antibody results?

Also have your nutrients been tested? Was folate low 6 months ago? (No range when last posted)

Your TSH might take a while to respond but your FT4 & FT3 are in range.

how are you feeling? Have symptoms settled?

Hi PurpleNails thanks for responding and sorry for my late reply. I have been on 10mg since end of Jan so around 8 weeks before getting bloods done.

I cannot seem to find the results I had printed but was told my antibody was positive so it is Graves’ disease.

here are the full test results. Symptoms have settled but still do not feel right and very tired. My menstrual cycle is all over the place.

Thanks in advance for your help.

in first post you were waiting for thyroid antibodies test results to confirm if Graves’ disease

Did you get results

ESSENTIAL to test vitamin D and ferritin as well as B12 and folate

What vitamin supplements are you taking

just had a letter from the hospital to say my appointment with endocrinologist has been cancelled and delayed (my first one seeing someone face to face) 😢 I also have a concern as there was a flag that I have High alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels, could this be linked to thyroid?

Yes ….most likely linked to having Graves’ disease

Hey there again :

We are still waiting on the medical evidence of what antibodies were found over range and positive from your initial blood test - do you now have a copy of this initial blood test ?

Blood tests tend to run behind systems being experienced = and whilst your T4 is in range your T3 is a little high - how are you feeling ?

When metabolism isn't running just right for the individual the body struggles to extract key nutrients though food so please arrange to get your core strength vitamins and minerals of ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D run as these need to be maintained at optimal levels, which we can also advise on.

Hope baby is allowing you to get some sleep !

thank you , I have posted full test results above. Feeling much better than I was but still not “normal” or how I felt pre pregnancy. I worry I never will again 😔

Hi I am from NZ. Units of measure and therfore ranges of normal results differ between labs. I can see that your TSH at .05 is not within the range which is between .4 and 5 for your lab. This is not a concern to me as the Cabimazole presumably is doing its job to reduce the level of free thyroid hormone in your blood to within the range. I assume previous blood tests were higher and out of range for t4 and possibly t3 although t3 is not measured at my lab. Now they can reduce your dose to increase the tsh again and the t4 could also move up or down and still be within range. Your t3 is only a giny bit out of range so to me not currently any prob. Essentially they are trying to get your dose right and normalise everything. It can take awhile and change that is why you have regular blood tests. I have been on cabimazole 4 years and eventually was on a regular dose of 5 mg a day.

hi Bannana 4444

Iv been on Carbimazole for 4 years now , seen a doctor face to face twice , I have my thyroid bloods done every 3/4 months and all ok on this drug . I started on 10mg day now on 5 mg … I really don’t understand why they just leave you on the drug .. I was going through my post menapause at the time but had to go on HRT 3 years ago as I was suffering from anxiety attacks and hot flushes, night sweats bad.. .. I am actually seeing a doc in June to see where I’m at , and hopefully they might take me off Carbimazole slowly… I’m so lost with all this as I seem to be doing all the chasing with my hospital about my thyroid/drug etc…

Maybe when you are at a level they will lower your dose …

Hope Iv helped a bit

Xx

Hi Jbird2020 I am sorry to hear you have had a rough time with it too. It seems you are just left to try and figure things out yourself :(. I was on 30mg carbimazole when I got put on the medication initially and on the one cal I had with a consultant he told me to go down to 10mg. Do

Were you given a diagnosis as to what caused your hyperthyroidism?

Thank you for your advice. X

No they didn’t say what caused it, but the more I read about the menapause, the more I believe that caused it … so confused .

We are looking at an auto immune disease and it takes as long as it takes for your immune system response to calm down and hopefully your thyroid recover normal function.

Quite why your immune system has been triggered to attack your body rather than defend it - is the question and you are best placed to look at life /work balance etc :

How are your eyes now ?

If you need anything explaining we can read the blood test for you and when metabolism isn't running right for the individual - either too fast as in hyperthyroidism or too slow as in hypothyroid your body struggles to extract key nutrients from your food so it's essential to also keep your ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D at optimal levels, which again we can help advise on.

But obviously this is someone else's post and you need to make a new post under your name if wanting further help and advice your next best steps to better health.

We are now, all, legally entitled to copies of our blood test results and other information held by our primary care provider.

Have you registered for online access at your surgery ?

Again is our right to view everything that is held at your surgery about us and now are able to view, at our leisure, anything and everything on our medical records held at your primary care provider.

Just ask at reception how you go about registering for online access.

It's got nothing to do with your doctor :

If using any lotions, potions or sprays for your eyes please just ensure all, even those prescribed. are preservative free :

Multi vitamins as such are not recommended as generally there's never enough of anything in them to resolve symptoms and suggest you look to supplement only those nott optimal and start off with core strength as if you body is low in key nutrients this simply compounds ones recovery -

look first to building to optimum - ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D

ok I’ll call docs tomorrow. Thank you.

I do suffer from dry eye so have to put eye drops in daily … wander if they are making me sensitive to light … ?

pennyannie profile image
pennyannie in reply to Jbird2020

Just check they are preservative free -

I don't think so as I find myself very light sensitive when the sun is low in the sky and just have to accept it's staying indoors or wearing strong UV protective sun glasses with wide sides on them.

Jbird2020 profile image
Jbird2020 in reply to pennyannie

yep preservative free… …

I have blue eyes as well which don’t help with the sun, and I’m out doors most of the day with my horses… funny though my eyes got sensitive after my second covid jab! And I have met a few people who have said the same thing ….
