Light sensitivity - hypo or hyper? Taking Armour.

Hello,

I take 2.5 grains of Armour and have noticed light sensitivity (especially to red lights), it is worse at night.

My ft3 was 63% and ft4 39% on Sunday (24 hours after taking my dose of NDT) I think I have it on a higher dose, but not 100% certain.

Does anyone have it or had it? Were you hypo or hyper?

Thank you x

Yes this is an issue for me. I’m hypo, but have had active TED in the past (now in remission). Eye dryness and light sensitivity are still ongoing symptoms. I use preservative free drops for dryness, eg HycoSan or Hyloforte. I wear reactive lenses that darken with sunlight in the day and green tinged glasses for night driving to reduce glare. I’d definitely discuss your concerns with your optician and (if symptoms are persistent) get a referral to an ophthalmologist. Best wishes to you 🦋

Thank you Buddy195, and sorry to hear that you still have it💚

I had it checked and there haven't found anything...🤔 I also use Hylo Forte when eyes get dry! It's great.

It started in November, I had overmedication symptoms and ft4 ft3 both high in range, 75-78%.

Since I was on Armour and a tiny bit of Levo (6.25mcg) I have removed Levo and a week later started to experience light sensitivity.

It is not as bad every day, but it happens and lately, 4.5 weeks ago, I have increased my Armour dose by a tiny amount and it made it a bit worse.

Going for more bloods tomorrow as today went for a walk, lights were so bright and I also have a slight sound sensitivity.

My issue is that if I increase Armour by 1/8 grain more I go into overdose (shaking, anxiety, palps, hunger, tremors).

Just to add information -

I had extreme light sensitivity - had to wear sunglasses on the streetcar at night and would still be in pain - when I was b12 deficient. It disappeared for the most part with loading doses. I still have it a bit but no where near before supplementation.

All the best to you.

Oh dear, this sounds terrible! My B12 is over range, but I'm checking the rest today- folate, iron, ferritin, should have results this evening.

Thank you!

You're welcome.

Over from supplementation? Just checking as over range without it needs to be investigated, noting for anyone reading.

That's right, been supplementing for many years with 1000 units of b12 the range is up to 880, my result was over 900.

Without supplementation it is low in range.

I would continue to make any changes to your medication super slowly & note how you feel on a given dose. Definitely retest levels 6-8 weeks after any change. As Litatamon has suggested, do also check key thyroid vitamins (ferritin, folate, vit D in addition to B12).

Thanks Buddy195, oddly I feel I was feeling better in some ways on a lower dose, but I have changed too quickly maybe (after 4.5 weeks).I'm almost at 5 weeks on this one, had a blood test this morning, also checking ferritin folate iron shbg prolactin etc my vit d is high in range and b12 currently over range.

I had light sensitivity when I was hypo, driving at night was a big problem for me, it's much better now. 2.5 grains is still a lowish dose, I'm sure I've read that most people end up on 3 to 4 grains.

Thanks Greybeard!I used to be on 4 grains, but had to reduce to 3 grains, my FT3 and FT4 were top of range after 24 hrs and wasn't feeling well.

Then I lost a lot of weight and again unwell on 3 grains (tremors, shakiness, palpitations). FT3 FT4 quite high in range again.

Tried 2.7 grains in January, my FT3 went up to 85% of range and got tremors, shaking, palpitations again, so had to back down.

Now taking 2.6 grains and my FT3 was 63% last Sunday. I have checked bloods again today at almost 5 weeks as I have been well this week.

It's horrible this light sensitivity, isn't it?
