does anyone have a fluttering of heart on occasion, or quick pound like it is going to come out of your chest. On levothyroxine 25 mg. I think TSH was 2.45. also lost half of my hair starting November. I had Covid then so not sure if that is why. (have hashimoto). Does hair grow back?

Hair loss and regrowth can happen when starting on thyroid medication. Good explanation here palomahealth.com/learn/levo...

Heart fluttering may also be caused by wonky thyroid levels. 25mcg levothyroxine is usually a starting dose and most people need to increase from that. You should have been tested about 4-6 weeks after starting on that dose. If you were, post your TSH, FT4 and FT3 results to give a better idea of what might be going on.

thanks! I was being treated for subclinical hypothyroid but the Levo was started back in July 22, so I was surprised by more recent hair loss. of course they didn't test recently for the whole thyroid panel and now I need to become aggressive with a doctor. ugh.

Approx how old are you

Standard starter dose levothyroxine is 50mcg unless elderly, frail or heart condition

Levothyroxine doesn’t top up failing thyroid, it replaces it

ESSENTIAL to be on high enough dose

Dose is increased slowly upwards in 25mcg steps. Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose increase

ALWAYS test early morning, ideally just before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

When adequately treated Ft3 at least 50-60% through range, usually on just levothyroxine Ft4 will be higher at around 70-80% through range

Unless extremely petite likely to need to be on at least 100mcg levothyroxine per day

ESSENTIAL to test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin too

Being left on inadequate dose levothyroxine results in low vitamins

Hairloss strongly linked to low iron/ferritin

Also need thyroid antibodies tested

About 90% primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, (hashimoto’s ) usually confirmed by testing both TPO and TG antibodies

I have had all of these things done...many in normal range according to all the posts I read here. hashimoto positive. I am tiny and 25 mg seems just fine and took away my subclinical symptoms and brought down to 2.45 which is my normal range for years. I can't give all my results right now...I was looking for peoples personal experiences with heart palpitations and hair loss....more for support and how people feel. not for help with diagnosis at this time. going to new doc next week.

on levothyroxine TSH should be around 1

Approx how much do you weigh in kilo

Guidelines on dose levothyroxine by weight is around 1.6mcg per kilo

palpitations common when under medicated

You likely have very low vitamin levels

Hair loss extremely common when hypothyroid due to low iron/ferritin

Request full iron panel test including ferritin

please add actual results and ranges for TSH, Ft4, Ft3, plus all four vitamins

With Hashimoto’s you need coeliac blood test done too
