TFT simply means Thyroid Function Test.

Did you hear TFTs (as in Thyroid Function Tests) over the phone?

Usually that means that they do a TSH test. Only if that is out of range do they do a Free T4, and only if that is high, they do a Free T3.

So you might get one, two or three results!

You might find this link - and the vade mecum itself - helpful as it contains a lost of most abbreviations.

The only other meaning I can come up with is the entirely unrelated:

TFTF Thin film transistor flat screen.

And that is despite searching the entire NHS.uk site!

Thankyou it maybe a misprint

Better than my experience today! Blood test appointment at 8:45 (not thyroid). At 9:10 another patient who came later met someone they know and mentioned they didn't have their blood test yet. Someone came out and took them for blood test. Ten minutes later I went to desk and they said 'you've had your blood test'. Turns out the other person was a Jim with a slightly similar surname. I told them I need to return the car to my wife, she needs it and went home. Also, told them I have no confidence in this person taking blood. Other patient will have a surprise when they find out they have been tested for something else.

Got a call apologising for delay, said they called me, on interrogation it was after I told them I was going. They said Dr X had told them to cancel minor surgery that day and they were busy doing that. Shame that Dr X said hello to me as he came in at 9:10!.

Booked an appointment for Monday with a nurse who I know.

That’s a pretty awful experience! Fancy compounding the mistake by outright lying! I’d like to say I’m surprised but these days… not so much.
